Hi, well I sold a pair of children crocs the other week along with loads of other stuff which people paid for straight away and I posted all these items couple of days after. This buyer didnt pay for 4 days after me messaging and asking if he still wants them, to which his reply was 'yes sorry, have been on holiday.' He paid on sunday, I am posting tomorrow as work all week. I clearly stated on my listing £4 second class postage and will be posted within 5 days of cleared payment.

So tomorow I am posting. He has now moaned and said 'I thought for that price it would be next day delivery?'

I know this is abit more for postage but I have been caught out in the past. I repied and said 'I will see how much next day is' which I have found out will cost about £5.50 so im not doing that but will post first class.

Am I wrong in what I have done? I don think I am.

I've had this before where buyers don't pay for ages but then the second they do pay they expect their item immediately. So, no, I don't think you're wrong in that respect. When he bid on your item he knew what your postage costs and timescales were so he should have raised it at the time if he felt it was a problem. For the record though, I do think your postage costs are high for a pair of child's crocs as I can't imagine they would weigh much. Sending an item of 2kg by standard parcels is just over £4 so I'm not sure how you've calculated it?

Ok thanks. I didnt calculate really, I just guessed, which is what I normally do and have never had any problems with postage but then some of the time I have been out of pocket. Yes i agree he bid knowing the cost of postage and timescale.

I did read a bit more about postage on here and might offer a refund after I have posted them as its probably a bit high.

Thanks

I would send them recorded if I were you - just so you know he did receive them. Then if there is much left maybe small postage refund?

The easy way to work out your postage is to weigh the item on your kitchen scales (pref. with packaging) and then check the postage on the royal mail price finder gadget on their website.

I have only very occasionally been caught out with under quoting postage using that method - generally when the item has just been on the border between two weight divisions and the packaging I used has tipped it into the higher division.

I don't think there is an issue with you posting tomorrow as that is within your timescale - if he had wanted them quicker then he should have paid quicker.

WhenDoISleep · 19/04/2012 22:10

Second the idea of sending recorded - buyer sounds like he may turn slightly awkward, so better to cover yourself from an item not received claim.

npg1 · 19/04/2012 22:13

ok thanks, so recorded not next day? Next day delivery would make me out of pocket. I got caught out before using that method on royal mail but will use that as a guide in future! I have paid for many items over priced on postage that I have thought 'surely it doesnt cost that much!'

Next day wouldn't necessarily arrive any earlier would it, and would cost more? Or am I wrong? First class recorded tomorrow should arrive Saturday I think.

npg1 · 19/04/2012 22:16

great thanks! will do recorded. hope he doesnt turn awkward

First class is delivered 1-2 days, so chances are it will be delivered next day.
