Hi
I'm a fairly novice ebayer and have recently been buying 2nd hand clothes and getting some great buys.

I recently bought a top shop blazer which was described as 'Well worn but will still make someone a smart jacket.'

I received the blazer today-it is definitely well worn and has lots and lots of bobbling that wasn't mentioned in the advert. I may have put this one down to experience but the jacket armpits also stink of BO. Is this unacceptable or is it to be expected that I would need to dry clean it?

Should I complain/leave -ve feedback or have I got no leg to stand on? The seller had excellent feedback in general.

Thanks

Ick - sounds disgusting. Items should be described as it is. Can you let her know you're unhappy and ask her to take a return?

I would first approach her though. If she is an honest person she would have no problem taking a return.

Approach her first, be polite. When I sell worn clothes, I mention EVERY flaw, and I certainly would have made sure it wasn't stinky! If you get no satisfaction with her, you can raise a case with eBay - buyers are very well protected. Plus, if her feedback is great, the buyer probably won't want a negative left, so might be more willing to accept a return. If you haven't been ebaying for long, I would take this as a wake-up call. There is a lot of misrepresented crap out there - if something is described as 'well worn', then chances are it's only fit for the dustbin. If you are still tempted, ask questions before you buy - has it been cleaned, does it have any odour, any marks, any worn patches, etc. If you think about how much a second hand, well worn item will go for, chances are the seller won't waste money on dry cleaning. One person's idea of wearable can be very different to another person. Steer clear of 'well worn', stick to 'worn a couple of times'. And avoid 'still wearable' (for who? A tramp?) and go for 'great' condition. Good luck!

My first thought was that you were an idiot for buying something described as "well worn". I don't think you can take issue with the bobbling - that is what "well worn" means, surely.

It depends really how much you paid for it as to what action you take. I'd let it go if you paid 99p. Not worth the hassle.

I would open a not as described case with eBay if seller refuses to co-operate.

And of course leave appropriate feedback

Update. I contacted seller who was mortified and very embarrassed. She offered a full refund and then also offered to refund, let me keep the jacket and contribute to dry cleaning. So there are honest people out there. In the end I asked if she would refund the jacket price £10.50 but that I would arrange the dry cleaning.
