Selling Bundles ????

Can anyone give any advice on this, as I've never sold bundles before, but it looks like a good plan, but looking at the listings, bar plenty of photos etc, I can't work out which is the best way to "bundle" things (girls clothes)

I know keeping it seasonal is good, but is it best to do an across the board mix of items, sort of outfits for all occasion type bundles - tops with pants & skirts, dresses, party stuff etc all in one bundle, or would bundling for example 3 summer sun dresses together with a similar taste type party dress together - or does it not really matter??

I'm thinking keeping bundles in similar style types is a good idea - ie DD has quite an eclectic taste in clothes, but is very much the little rock chic fashionista & the prettier more girly type stuff you just can't get her into, she's been that way for yearsHmm, so I personally would stay clear of buying pretty girly dresses, as I'd be wasting my money - but is this just my shoppers nightmare DD, or is it how everyone shops ??

TIA

:)

Well if you can figure this out you are a better woman than me.....

It seems devilishly difficult and I have had limited success. I found small or large, they would go for a low price as I was not selling bundles of branded/designer gear (but not rubbish either). If they sell low, once you have paid the listing fee, sale end fee, the paypal fees and covered miscalculated postage I found that I was paying to send clothes to other people! I had better success with named brand single items.

I now buy bundles (as most go so cheaply it seems hardly worth selling) and then give the clothes to friends or the charity shop.

My recent success was finding someone who also had a boy and girl, but who were the reverse ages to mine and born around the same season. We have now arranged a long term clothes swap for our younger kids which is working pretty well so far.

Sorry - not answering your question really, but Ebay bundles are probably not the way to make your fortune. I always wondered if I would do better at a car boot doing 50p-£1 an item. Good luck anyway tho!

Thanks for that - I'm even more confused now :)

I was watching a couple of bundles & they went for surprisingly big money, thats what got me thinking it was a better way to go Confused

they weren't designer gear, though did have a few better labels thrown in amongst, Asda & Primark stuff - they were laid out in outfits, rather than just piled up IYSWI, so I do think that might have helped, but I'm not so sure now I've seen your reply & now wonder if it was just well timed - ie they were put up as soon as the Sun came out & looked like it was hanging around

you make a good point on postage though, got to admit thats something that did worry me

I have recently sold 2 bundles and was surprised at how well they actually sold given what similar items were going for. I'm referring to M&S, Gap type calibre. The last bundle was mostly summer dresses. the previous were long sleeved dresses.

I have listed BNWT items individually in the past selling little over my starting price and as tricot says, once you take the fees out and miscalculated postage, you're left with pence. Not sure what the solution is only do not list for 99p or any less than what you are willing to let it go for. Yes, you may have fewer bids that way but if you get at least one bid then you'll sell for what you're prepared to accept and if it goes higher then that's a bonus.

My two pence worth.

Take your photos etc. and have a go at the next Free Listing weekend, starting at the lowest price you would be happy for the bundle to go for. If you get no interest at all, re-bundle and try again at the following Free Listing weekend! Weigh carefully and price your postage accordingly.

I have never bought bundles of clothes on eBay, but I personally wouldn't have looked at bundles of similar dresses, as my dd was never really into skirts and dresses... I think I would have been attracted more by a varied bundle of different outfits.

I have sold a few bundles recently

Baby stuff - bundles of similar clothes - sleepsuits or vests or tops or outfits

Children's clothes - bundles of mixed tops and bottoms with a few accesories and maybe a light jacket thrown in. Keep style similar - eg: frilly and girly; smart; bright and stripey so that someone with a particular style won't be put off by a few things in the bundle. Also, try and have a really good piece or two in each bundle - something from boden/monsoon/gap or something really nice if it is cheaper (I had a biding war over a Sainsbury's hoody. I'm sure it was because it coudl have been straight out of Mini Boden).

Also, I've seen bundles of mixed sizes for sale too. I would not be interested in them. Especially when they were same season, but connsecutive sizes IYSWIM.

Personally when looking at clothes I tend to only look for bundles of similar items - i.e. tops or bottoms or jumpers etc. This is because my DD is an odd shape (tall and lanky) but also is not a dress type girl so mixed bundles tend to have a majority of items I know won't fit/she won't wear!

deliakate · 30/03/2012 19:43

Chuck in something from Boden, put Boden in the title, and it will go for masses! Seriously though, it isn't easy selling baby/children's clothes unless they are sought after labels, in which case listing individually seems to work best.

I find that adding to the amount you want to sell for and give free postage can help.

HomeEcoGnomist · 31/03/2012 19:14

Well, I have just gone back to ebay after having a break. Last time I did only break even/make a small loss on the bundles (if they sold), so I have changed my strategy:

  • biggest bundle is about 25 pieces of a variety of things: vests, PJs, tops & bottoms - all the same size, give or take a couple of things. Postage really puts people off I find, but tbh, I have so much baby stuff kicking around, I just want to get rid of it! Most of the bundle was M&S/John Lewis/Next, I just wouldn't bother with Primark etc etc as that stuff is so cheap to buy new that I think people won't be interested
  • smaller bundles of better things eg 6 GAP things, which went for 75% of the larger bundle, so pulling out the best stuff works (assuming I am going to get paid for this one!)
  • single items eg Grobags - last time round, no offers - this time, all 3 went and 1 for more than I was expecting. So sometimes you are just really at the whim of what people want at any given time

And I only ever list when it's free insertions.

Hope that helps!

Brilliant - thanks everyone for so many helpful replies - I now know what to do :)

We don't have Boden, can't say I care much for their stuff myself & neither does DD who is a fussy mare & will only wear what she likes since 16months old I do have other better label stuff & quite a bit of 1 off professionally made stuff too, so I'm hoping that will help bundles go

& its free listing again this weekend, so will get onto it - thanks again & sorry for the slow reply, DD has been ill with a nasty virus, so playing nursey not been online as such.
