Buyer not happy with item - wwyd?

Just sold a Vertbaudet 6-box child's unit - really pretty - for a good price. Seller collected today, seemed happy.

Got an email this eve saying she wasn't happy as the boxes have big scratches on them all (no they don't) and they are faded (no, they're not).

Have asked her what she wants to do, but she collected it from me and seemed happy.... so am a bit Hmm. Was listed as VGC but used - and the nature of the item is that boxes slide in and out against each other but they were in great nick, no marks that I could see at all (and seller took each box out separately to car, so plenty of time to check them).

Is she just trying it on??

Did she pay paypal or cash? And do you currently have 99%+ feedback? If the answers are cash and yes, then i'd say sod her, deal done!

PiedWagtail · 23/03/2012 19:47

Yes, cash, and yes, 100% :) Thanks :)

If it was cash on collection then it was sold as seen. If she paid paypal then all she needs to do is put in a dispute saying she didnt receive it and you would have to refund

Flibbertyjibbet · 23/03/2012 20:01

Tell her to bring it back and have a refund. That will test whether she is just trying it on for some money back. Whenever this happens to me I just say send it back for a refund and they stop moaning.

PiedWagtail · 23/03/2012 20:57

Well, I have asked her what she wants to do so will see if she'd like to bring it back for a refund. Gah. Thanks :)

and tell her you will check your security marks before refunding - make sure she isn't giving you back her old broken unit and keeping yours.

OP with an update - buyer has emailed me photos of the scratches on the boxes - they look terrible and I am convinced that they weren't there when I gave her the unit - one of us would surely have noticed them???? Don't know what to do now.

She has 100% feedback as buyer and seller and seemed a nice person when she came to collect item.

But am struggling to believe that I didn't notice these scratches!! Because we carried the boxes out to the car separately - surely one of us would have seen them??????

Help - wwyd??

I reckon she is trying to give you her old damaged unit and keep yours

AuntLucyInPeru · 25/03/2012 17:14

She paid cash, goods sold as seen. You're terribly sorry, but there's really nothing you can do.

queenebay · 25/03/2012 19:53

It was sold as seen. She had time to examine it so its not your fault. She has no rights at all

I had a similar thing happen when I sold a dining table and chairs last year.

I asked to come and look at the damage, as I knew for a fact there was none, and I wasnt convinced by the pictures.
He argued a lot telling me that I could see it when he returned it.

Then he turned up at my house, and started unloading the table before knocking on my door, but I saw him through the window and went out.
I asked him to stop unloading it but he refused.
I inspected the table, and found it did have damage on the corners of the table.
I know that there was no such damage before and suggested maybe the damage happened during transportation, as it was not properly secured in the van.
The buyer became very aggressive and demanded his money back, I refused.

He left me very nasty feedback and filed a dispute against me but in the listing pictures you can clearly see no damage to the corners of the table, so I won and his feedback was removed.

mmm - always mark all parts of an item you are selling with uv pen - then you know if they are returning the original or trying to pull a fast one...

If it was sold as seen, then I would not offer a refund.

sherbetpips · 04/04/2012 12:04

If you want to keep your rating then take it back and give a refund. I had a similar incident recently where he sent me pictures of the item with various scratches and broken parts that I know where not there. I now take great care to photograph the item from all angles and keep them for my records in case it happens again. Lesson learnt!

OP here with update - buyer asked for £5 off and was happy with that. Bizarre.
