Do you reveal reserve price?

I set a reserve on a fairly high value item and someone has emailed to ask what it is. I was a bit surprised. Surely there isn't any point me paying for a reserve price if I then just tell what it is?
Can you tell I'm new to this so would appreciate advice how to respond. TIA

When they bid it will tell them whether or not they have met the reserve price so I suppose they will find out. Personally I find it really annoying to keep having to enter higher bids essentially against the seller, so would rather know and then if I'm not prepared to pay that much then at least I know.
I thought that paying for a reserve price means that you don't have to part with the item for less than you are willing to? Ready for someone to correct me but I've never understood why the reserve prices aren't public as they are at a 'real' auction?

I'm happy to reveal my reserve price and used to get people asking often (don't really use the reserve anymore). However, I'm always reluctant to ask people what their reserve is...not sure why.

I don't like reserve prices and as a buyer they put me off. When selling I start my listing at the minimum I would be prepared to accept for the item in question.

Telling them what the reserve price is shouldnt make much difference to you as a seller.

I also find reserve prices irritating.

reserve prices are never normally revealed at real auction, but reputable auction houses say the reserve is never higher than lower estimate

our local auction house as a minimum reserve of £100 ebay's is £50 personally find ebay reserves annoying and will ask mostly for Dh and he is looking for a mini digger

I think it is cheaper to list auction at min price ie £299 rather than starting at 99p with reserve of £300 as if not sold will not get back price paid for reserve but if not sold at 299 will get credit when relist

in any case on ebay its easy to find your reserve you bid up until it says reserve met then you just retract your bids and decide whther not to bid at all whether to re enter bid for lower about or whatever, not saying anyone ought to do that but it is just what happens with high value items like cars travel systems etc
