Bid from France on UK postage only item WWYD??

RachelHRD · 22/03/2012 20:38

Listed 10 items last weekend - first time I have sold on there in the last 5 years. One is a pair of shoes starting at £15 and on listing I have stated UK postage only as I have read on here there can be issues posting abroad. Just had first bid of £15 but the buyer is in France - they have good feedback.

WWYD - message them and point out the postage terms or see how the listing goes (2 watchers) and contact after listing ends if they win it?? Is it much more expensive to send to France??

Thanks

I would find out the cost from Royal Mail/courier etc to send on a signed for service and then tell the bidder how much it will cost them.

DH is our resident ebayer and he only uses signed for services regardless of where the bidders are from... (had fingers burned in the past!)

or block them and change your settings so buyers from abroad are unable to bid?

Your auction, your choice - if you don't want to sell abroad you don't have to.

When I lived abroad, I often ordered from ebay.co.uk cause it was cheaper and had better selection.

Email the bidder and let them know that you don't normally post to France, but you are willing to do so if they will pay for extra postal costs.

I've never had a problem sending anything overseas. Work the postage out and let them know. Make sure you invoice for the right postage amount.

no more problems from overseas bidders than uk ones to be honest

I've sent a few things to France recently and they have all got there.

I listed some buy it now stuff last week with UK and Europe as postage destinations and someone from Australia bought one! The invoice had no postage on it so I emailed and asked her hold fire till I'de been to the post office to ger the correct charges.

RachelHRD · 22/03/2012 23:49

thanks all - I'll wait til the listing ends and if she wins mail her regarding charges. I'm not averse to sending overseas just thought it might be more hassle and problematic with items going missing.

teanosugar do you send recorded or just standard with proof of postage?

depends on value some place like south america china etc only international signed for europe australia USA if above £25 as it does add £4.99 to postage not 77p, if value is below £46 technically can claim from royal mail not sure how successful you would be but so far not one claim for an overseas parcel going missing out of 70+

I live in France and often buy stuff on ebay uk but i always check with the seller before bidding that they don't mind sending to france and what the postage charge will be.
In my experience it doesn't cost much more and i've never had any problems.
I would do what Mme Lindor suggests.

teanosugar · 24/03/2012 22:36

Standard with proof of purchase
