I have earmarked this week for getting loads of things listed on Ebay, but now that it's looming I'm starting to feel apathetic about it all! I've only sold 3 things previously.

I've looked at similar items already listed, and am disappointed how many receive no bids. What can I do to attract attention to my items?

I'm keen to keep the Ebay fees to a minimum, so was planning on starting things at 99p - is that a good tactic?

Is it worth checking out couriers for larger items (cot, travel system, childs bike) or just list them for collection only?

If I list things for collectin only, I was planning on stating cash on collection - is that the best option (though I'm feeling a little embarrassed already at the though of someone handing over 99p on my doorstep for something that's worth more!!!).

I'm trying to get into my head that lots of 99p's will add up and that it'll be worth the time getting things listed but could do with a little more inspiration!

The problem with collection only is that it restricts your market (obviously) so it's better to start the items off at a realistic price rather than 99p or you risk, as you say, selling large things for a quid.

It may well be worth arranging a courier for more valuable items. I personally never bother but I am lazy!

As to how to attract bidders? It's a complete can of worms but generally: nice photos, fair postage charges, decent, honest descriptions with no spelling mistakes or bad grammar and most importantly be realistic. People are looking for a bargain and generally won't pay large amounts of money for tat or nondescript items. Sell children's clothing in bundles except for designer items or particularly nice outfits. And yes, if you start auctions at 99p, be prepared that you sell them for that.

Time it so your auctions finish between 7-9:30pm on Sundays. You can set them up in advance, with a as hauled start 2-3 weeks ahead, then on Sunday night edit them, remove the scheduled start so they start immediatly and you won't get charged the extra fee

Ten day listing starting on a Thursday and ending on a Sunday between seven and eleven in the evening.

Good photos and description a must as is accurate postage charge.

Each word of the title beginning with a capital and as many searchable words that you can think of.

Good luck Smile

I find ending monday or tuesday better than sunday evenings to be honest

cash only for collection - but if you want more than 99p you will have to start items at a higher price

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

So end everything on a Sunday evening - I'll need to have a close look when I'm listing to sort out the tactics that Seabright recommends!!

You're right Tryharder, I think if I do collection only then I'll start the auction at more than 99p but try to keep things realistic.

Well I've got 5 things listed, due to start next Thursday at 8pm for 10 days.

I'm hoping to get loads more on and then start them together and offer combined postage rates on everythng - does that sounds like a good plan?

If I can I'll start things sooner than next week - I need to see some evidence of sucess to keep me at it!
