I've been asked for a Buy It Now price. Should I say yes?

That's it really.

The item isn't very exciting, and I put it on starting at 99p, so I could make sure I get it sold this way.

Do you think it's a good idea?

What are the rules for selling it Buy It Now?

And how do I go about it?

I never give a buy it now price when asked, as I feel it's unfair on people who are watching, and, in my experience, when someone offers a BIN price it is usually lower than the price it eventually goes for.

Have they said a price they want? If so have you looked at completed prices to see whether it seems viable? If you have had any bids placed on it, you can't do a BIN but can otherwise.

amistillsexy · 29/02/2012 21:22

Thanks all. I replied asking if they had a price in mind (I know I do-I've done my research!), and they haven't replied. There are no bids on the item yet, but 5 watching, so I think they were just chancing their arm.

I often accept BIN offers. I usually want the things out of my house as quickly as possible so if someone offers me a decent price then I'll happily sell-it-now Grin.

I might have just been a bit greedy with my latest BIN request, though. I asked for £30 and they wanted that to include p&p (£6). I refused and I bet it'll end up selling for its £10 start price to the same ebayer.

amistillsexy · 01/03/2012 23:18

Well the last person hasn't replied, but someone else has asked now. I've got 10 watching, but no bids. Any advice?

Mogs, I feel the same way-I just want it out of the house!
I also want a top price because I'm greedy Blush.
But with 10 watchers I could be doing myself out of a bidding war if I go BIN!

AAArrrghhh! I just wish I knew what people were going to bid!

I recently listed a buggy with a start price of £300 and a BIN of £500. It ran for 10 days, had 37 watchers and ended with not a single bid.

Re-listed it and it sold for just under the BIN price within a couple of days...there is no set pattern to eBay.

Could you check completed listings to see how much similar items have gone for? That might help you choose a price. I sometimes ask them to make me an offer...tried that yesterday with someone interested in one of my items and they haven't replied so doesn't always work.

amistillsexy · 02/03/2012 18:00

have done that with both people who asked me for buy it now price and neither have replied. i'll just have to wait and see, i suppose.

sorry about lack of caps. juggling small sleeping child, tea and laptop.

I've had it work both ways, sometimes peopke need tge item before they would receive it orherwise.

I was selling a bf dress teas lovely new with tags but didn't fit by tge time I had the baby, was offered a bin and declined cause if tge watchers and really thought it would go for more, it went for much less.

Someone picked up something from me yesterday, after asking for bin I asked them to make an offer and was very happy with tgat so did. If you add on eBay fees I think it was worth it and they got to pick up this weekend rather than sometime after next Monday.

I was recently offered BIN of £30 for a dress I'd listed, I said "no" and sold it for £31 - she had obviously done her research!

amistillsexy · 06/03/2012 21:41

Well, I didn't get any replies from the BIN people, but it went for £30, exactly what I'd have asked as a BIN, so the right price!

Thanks, everyone, for your advice and stories. I'm now hooked, and combing the house for more crap stuff to sell!
