i have an item listed on ebay at the mo, that so far has one bid. i have had an email overnight from someone asking how much i would like for the item and he could come to my house today and collect. is this usual? what do i reply? i would rather let the auction run i think, i'm still relatively new to ebay and i am a bit confused.
thanks for your help

Some people try it on . - just reply ' I am letting the auction run there is no buy it now price'

As you have one bid you need to let auction run .

I don't think you could even sell it to this person if you have already had a bid from someone else? I would just email back saying that you would like the auction to run until the end.

It sounds potentially strange. Is it a high value item that you are selling?

shelley72 · 26/02/2012 08:01

i am not sure how much it will sell for tbh, not hundreds though. i will email back and let them know - just made me feel a bit uncomfortable!
incidentally i also had someone ask (on another item) if i would do a buy it now price - there are no bids on this yet but a few watchers. again i am inclined to let the auction finish but can you add a buy it now price once the auction has started?

I believe you can as long as there are no bids on it . i.e add a buy iy now price

If someone does collect make sure you take cash and not paypal

It's not unusual. Some people do this, I do it sometimes, so people who are completely on the level (and really want the item/ need it quickly/ don't want to miss it by bidding the wrong amount/ would rather pay MORE than you might get in order to secure it!) and others who possibly are a bit rude or something, and want to get it for less than they know it's worth.

You have to go with your instinct, in this instance I'd let the auction run as there is a bid. You can't add a buy it now once there is.

Just say, sorry, I don't want to end the auction as there is a bid already but please feel free to bid, and thank them for their interest. People will understand if you're a new ebayer and they are nice.

Unfortunately you can't control who bids and ultimately wins and some folk probably won't be as nice as you might hope, that's one of the risks of selling.

Just so you know!
