I am trying to come with a new way of making extra cash. Ive sold quite a few old household items on ebay in the past. So ive been thinking about buying stuff on ebay and then selling on , as many do. I specifically thinking about buying make up/cosmetic job lots, ( there seem to some great deals on there) I could probably do a few car boot sale as well. So any advice really appreciated.

the only advice I can give you is if you do buy to sell on then you will need to register with eBay as a business seller and register with HMRC too.

realistically , is ebay a good way to make a regular extra income?

It all depends what you are selling, what price you buy it for and your mark up I guess!

Yes it is a good way. Remember to factor in for lost/ damaged items and lying buyers. I guesstimate about 1 out of every 20 sales you get an awkward transaction. So long as its factored in you can just refund/ write off and not get stressed.

what do you sell ? I see a lot of completed listings that have had no buyers. You do just keep relisting til items sell? are buy it now prices better than auction? and doesnt that get expensive with listing fees.

I am not a business seller but do sell a lot and I am baffled as to how people actually make good money on eBay. It's a lot of effort for very little return. I used to buy quite a few joblots on eBay (mainly clothing) which I had shipped abroad (not for profit or resell before anyone says anything about tax). I stopped doing it because so many of the joblots were complete and utter shite.

I think carboot sales would be quite a good idea though. You pay to get in but then you don't have to pay any other fees. I have sold at car boots before as well and found that the main hurdle with that was the weather - it's so often cold and wet even in Summer and if you don't get a good turnout of buyers, it's hard to make money.
