Seller requesting more money <confused>

So I bought something on ebay, wasn't too expensive and is something that was wanted for a gift for the weekend. The postage was reasonable. However I have just been contacted by the seller asking for the postage again because he got it wrong, by £3 apparently.

So, where do I stand, should I pay it?

It was a buy it now purchase.

Even I know something that is quite heavy won't be £3 for 1st class recorded. He has said he will send me the postal reciept.

The seller should have weighed the item before listing to sort out postage.

They just have to suck it up and remember to be better organised next time.

Dont pay anything, tell them to cancel purchase if they are not happy - I would also contact ebay and tell them what they have done.

dukeofpork · 22/02/2012 21:49

I have just had this very same experience and am mightily pissed off about it. Seems that the seller can do this and if you don't agree to pay more for postage he/she can cancel the sale.

If you are really stupid enough to sell something on eBay without knowing how much postage is, you should be forced to pay the extra IMHO.

PoohBearsHole · 22/02/2012 21:56

I am not sure he can do much as it is already sent. I am tempted to wait and see if it arrives with me and then I shall see, but am quite irritated. I started a thread yesterday about how I had cocked up the postage on a ridiculously low item but my issue, sucked it up!

Oh well if he had already sent it then he will just have to pay it himself. Just contact customer services to make sure he can't open a case against you.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 22/02/2012 22:01

Was it quite a new seller?! I've only sold maybe a dozen things on ebay, but have still managed to accidentally massively undercharge on postage a few times.
Never tried to claim it back off the buyer though, what a cheek!

fergoose · 22/02/2012 22:05

No he can't open any case against you - and he can't demand more money either. I would just ignore him if I were you.

PoohBearsHole · 22/02/2012 22:16

fergoose, that is what I was thinking. No he isn't new and he has over 2100 transactions so really should have known imo. If it doesn't arrive (I may open a case) His feedback although generally good does insinuate unpleasantness on the sellers behalf when discussing. He is also demanding flipping fb. Err.....

ignore him,he cant do a thing.his problem!
if you dont recieve item you can, assuming you paid via paypal, get your money back.

fergoose · 22/02/2012 22:53

Demanding feedback - that is enough to get my back up. It is flipping voluntary etc. If they demand it I am tempted to email saying I may leave feedback they don't want, ie neut or neg, or maybe I am mean. I buy and sell items not feedback - sorry, maybe it is just me who is fed up of being badgered for feedback and 5 stars all the time.

PoohBearsHole · 22/02/2012 22:59

Nope not just you - feedback, mine is likely to be rude. I don't mind if people don't give me feedback, usually if asked I don't bother. But to demand feedback and more money slightly winds me up!
