Is Ebay really worth it?

Ok so I have just ebayed some old things I have had around the house, they are in fab condition otherwise I wouldn't have bothered but I do wonder why I have bothered tbh. Brand new fleece, sold for 99p (adult), postage spot on (oh ok 8p over) less ebay and paypal fees total income.......60p Sad

For all the effort I should just have given it to the charity shop shouldn't I. I know I could have started at a different price but it isn't the only thing that has gone for ridiculously low price.

So, if I want to continue do I factor in more than 8 frigging p for postage?
Or does that just look greedy?

Gasp-hermione,that is disgusting! Shock
I do know what you mean, regarding is it worth it.
I spent the best part of yesterday packing stuff up.
However if I have 300 pounds in my paypal account by Easter, it will really be worth it,as it will mean I can buy clothes etc without going shopping in town, this will help the family,as I always overspend and we are short of money.
I agree about popular names like Boden, and Next, they seem to do well, but it is depressing when stuff goes for 99p.On the other hand I have bought loads of jumpers and cardigans for 99p,so I have benefitted too,so in a way it is swings and roundabouts. At the moment I have 111 pounds in my paypal account just through selling bits and bobs that would have gone to the Charity shop,I am very pleased with myself for that,so don`t give up.Another thing I found helped is being organised with packing, having the packing materials ready.I took the advice off a mumsnetter and purchased a load of packing using paypal. It looked more professional when packed up,so that gave me a bit of a thrill too.
Persevere,I have given up in the past but I am doing well now. What has helped is the 300 pound by Easter thread, and also the more mistakes you make the more you learn.I had a non-payer from overseas and a couple who did not have paypal,so I restrict to UK only sales and paypal only. Some might not agree because you are restricting your net, however,I had no hassle this time selling 13 items, all paid promptly.Just hope there are no snags now.Good Luck!!

Does anyone know when the next free listing weekend is?

PoohBearsHole · 22/02/2012 09:34

I agree re paypal, its like buying with a cc, I feel more secure and there is a process that follows this which I think is good. The fees are irritating though

Have to go but will come back and chat laterx

I enjoy ebaying - I like getting what feels like something for nothing. Actually, I hate getting rid of my stuff - am a bit of a hoarder Blush - but find it much easier to part with my "treasures" for cash to someone who wants them. It always takes me ages to photograph and list everything, though. I don't tend to put things on at 99p. I use free listing days as much as possible, and don't care if I only sell 25% or 30% of my items each time. The hard work is done and I can re-list easily at another time. If you list at 99p you depend on at leat 2 people wanting the item to start a bidding war - if only one person wants it you just get 99p!

I was in ikea and bought a whole load of brown paper to wrap things in. I think if I am charging a little more for the postage or if I am paying for postage I don't want it to arrive in a tesco bag (yup this has happened) that is all tattered.

It is relatively cheap there and if you buy a big role then it can last for ages and ages and I also use it to wrap presents with, with a bit of nice ribbon so it doubles up for me.

I often purloin envelopes that have been sent internally to me at work and recycle them as they are in v good nick, and sometimes take the last bits of the brown tape from work too Blush.

I will look into paypal though, I know friends have bought those thick plastic envelopes but if I have sold something for 99p then it ends up you are paying more than you are recieving on some occasions!

The really annoying thing is people demanding feedback, I quite often won't give feedback if I get a demanding message or will leave neutral feedback. I don't demand fb so I don't want it demanded of me. Smile

I find eBaying quite depressing. So few buyers and so little profit for the time/hassle/potential shitty comeback.
