I only post to UK to keep things simple as ebay is more of a small-time hobby than a business.

An ebayer who lives in Spain has contacted me saying they'll buy three items, pay by paypal and supply a UK address for me to post to.

My preferences are set to UK bidders only. Auctions end on Sunday. Any items over £10 I send 'signed for'.

Does their request sound dodgy at all to you? Or will it be complicated?
Thanks for any advice you may have!

I would think that would be ok. My cousins live abroad and would often use family uk addressesp for uk deliveries.

OlympicEater · 17/02/2012 09:25

If their feedback is ok then I think it will be ok. PIL live abroad so we often get stuff for them and then ship it out

blondiep14 · 17/02/2012 09:25

My Dad lives in Greece and is always getting Ebay stuff sent to me to forward on.

franke · 17/02/2012 09:28

Probably ok. I live in Germany and often have things sent to my mum. Check their feedback.

franke · 17/02/2012 09:29

(my mum lives in the UK)

Thank you for such quick replies - off to check their feedback!

Hi, I would advise them that you only post to an address supplied by Paypal as otherwise I think you are not covered should anything go wrong. They can add another address to their account and when paying choose that address to post two. I have two addresses on my account and depending when I am expecting the items just choose the most conveniente one.
I have also posted to North Ireland before for someone that lived in Spain and it was very straight forward done that way.
I hope that helps Smile

Moln · 17/02/2012 09:33

ild say it's fine (especially if they send payment!) I live in Ireland and the postage can be crazy from the UK.

In cases where something is not posted outside the UK I'll use my parents address - then they bring it over when they visit, or I collect when I'm over

Katiekitty · 17/02/2012 09:33

Their feedback is 100% with a 546 rating, a member since Feb 05.

Sounds ok?

oh cross post with baabi - I am registered with my parents address

franke · 17/02/2012 09:39

Yes, it sounds absolutely fine. And it won't be complicated.

fergoose · 17/02/2012 09:44

they need to add the address to paypal and choose it at checkout when they pay.

you must only send to the address paypal give you - otherwise you aren't covered. I would send it recorded/courier too.

Katiekitty · 17/02/2012 09:55

I've just replied to their query asking them for confirmation that the UK address I'll be posting to is registered with Paypal, so when I hear back, I'll change my bidder requirements for them and keep fingers crossed they pay up.

And I'll definitely be posting 'signed for' - is this the same as recorded?

Thank you again everyone for your really helpful and speedy replies.

i live in spain and do almost all my online shopping on ebay and either get sellers to send direct which they rarely have a problem with or get them to send to grandma which is a bit of pain but works, and sometimes they ban me from bidding because i live in spain so i beg to be 'exempted formtheri buyer requirements' and usually they do.. personally as a buyer in spain i dont see what the problem is.. why wouldnt a seller want to sent to me overseas? dos anyone have any bad experiences with overseas buyers, as an overseas buyer i have had no bad ebay experiences out of about 500

hey katiekitty there is a chance i am your buyer??!!! what are you selling??!

popflos · 18/02/2012 17:05

i think at the end of the day if its a 500 pound prada handbag i would think twice but if its a 6quid pepa pig easter egg (for example which i just bought on ebay!!) then i wouldnt worry about it.. as an overseas ebayer, i am happy to take the risk and if the seller is open about their concerns and the buyer is willing to take that on, in the spirit of ebay there is no problem. in all my years as a fanatical ebayer i have had 2 purchases never show up (value not worth chasing up) and one item show up broken which i deeply regret purchasing.. at no time was an honest seller ever taking a risk selling to me.

popflos · 18/02/2012 17:07

anyone wanting to sell uggs, jo malone, boden boy age 8, paul smith/gant for medium man, ghost dresses, i am your buyer!

fretfree · 19/02/2012 08:02

I guess I am missing something - but I really don't understand what the issue is. Surely as a seller you get the payment before you send out the goods - so what is the problem posting to a different address or to overseas? (I get that it will increase postage costs, but would this not be reflected in the P&P costs?).

I am currently overseas and often time my Ebay purchases with family and friends coming out to visit so the delivery address will change quite frequently (although I always include a C/O Fretfree in the address).

onadietcokebreak · 19/02/2012 12:09

The problem is unless the item is sent recorded paypal won't offer the seller any protection. Putting the postage up to include tracking for overseas makes postage expensive and some countries don't always have reliable tracking systems. If the buyer claims not received ( not everyone is honest) seller is out of pocket.

Colliecollie · 19/02/2012 18:24

If you don't want to post to non uk buyer, you don't have to, just because they asked. you can politely say no thanks.

Bucharest · 20/02/2012 17:03

That's what I do, having both an address in Italy and one in the UK. Especially near Christmas when I know I'm going to be in the UK.

giveitago · 23/02/2012 22:11

I think it's OK - I had overseas buyers who paid in £ for delivery to the UK - their business really. If you think about it lots of families are sort of pan european so people buy things for their loved ones in the UK.

PigletJohn · 25/02/2012 12:53

of course, if they want to pay by any method other than paypal; or if the address on paypal is not the one they say they want it sent to, cancel the sale.

there is a common scam when people pay by paypal, then say they want to collect. No proof of postage=no help from paypal when the buyer denies receiving it

Also they may be using a stolen paypal account, having got hold of the password.

Katiekitty · 26/02/2012 15:42

Popflos - it could well have been your good self as one of the items was Jo Malone!

The buyer in Spain didn't bid in the end, but it was good to get lots of advice on here.

And Popflos - hope to trade with you if it is you!
