Why have an auction starting at 99p if you have a reserve on it and BIN at £50?

The reserve must be near the top end of the £50 because I have put in a bid of £43 and reserve is still not met (although auction in still at £24). Why bother putting an auction on it starting at 99p? Just curious as I dont sell on ebay and just wondered why a Seller would bother? If you want a minimum amount why dont you set a reserve and start auction on that reserve price. In which case there is no point putting a BIN price. Or if you want to sell somthing at BIN, surely there is no point in starting an auction with a reserve where the reserve is at the BIN price. Or am i being totally thick and missing something?

is it just about getting people looking at the item? Or if they sort it in order of price it comes up near the top?

The listing price is cheaper if your start price is low.

It gets more people looking at your item.

the lowest a reserve can be is £50

But if it doesn't sell I think they may have charges to pay re the reserve price. MIL tried to sell something on ebay with a reserve price and it did not sell and she ended up still having to pay charges, think it was a % of the reserve price iir. Although this was a while ago and rules may have changed.

yes you are charged extra for adding a reserve to an auction.
