Is it correct that a seller can't refund until a case is closed?

I opened a case for a damaged item with the intention of returning it for a refund. The seller has now said she'll refund the cost of a repair which I was willing to accept. However, she now claims that she can't refund me until I close the case. I don't believe this is true and I think she may be getting me to close it so I'm unable to take any further action.

No it's not true! If you close the case then she decides not to refund, you're stuffed and you cannot re-open it.

Tell seller you will not close the case, if seller still refuses to refund then phone ebay and tell them what's happening.

Thanks JustGrape, that's exactly what I thought so I'm glad you're saying the same! :o I've told her I won't close the case without the refund. I've been far too reasonable with her and I'm now giving her one last chance and then closing the case. The idiot spent £40 using the most expensive courier so she's obviously worried about losing that money. It's going to cost me £18 to return but I'm really fed up of it now! She's been irritating and lying from the word go so it hasn't surprised me she's trying it on.
