Seller opened case against us for "non payment"

  • but we tried and tried to contact them and they didn't reply!

DP won a second-hand typewriter for 99p off what is clearly a new seller, they had 0 feedback when he bid, it had gone up to 5 negatives by the time he won the item!
Seller clearly doesn't know how how to use eBay...

He messaged them a few times after winning but heard nothing back. The item was listed as "for collection only".

Now he received a message saying "The seller has opened a case against you for cancellation due to non-payment".

What should we do? If we "accept" the case, does that make it our fault that the transaction didn't happen, and will it show on our feedback or elsewhere on our account?
Should we decline the case, then open our own case against the seller?

The typewriter went for 99p and I think the seller doesn't want to sell for that little but doesn't know how to back out. We aren't going to get the item but I don't want this person's ignorance of eBay to affect our feedback.

Would be very grateful if anyone could shed some light on what we should do for the best.

If you don't want a strike pay the 99p via paypal, then open a case not received to get your money back

then leave a very big negative feedback - hopefully the seller will then be kicked off

the seller can't leave you bad feedback so don't worry about that

Thanks fergoose much appreciated! They have a stream of negatives so should get kicked off soon.

Yes indeed - I hope so.

by opening a case against them they will get a strike too.
