why can't I list make up as "used"?

Have there been some changes on ebay re. selling cosmetics?
I want to sell some Laura mercier eye shadow ( used once) and some OPi nail polishes- used a couple of times only- but it's only letting me list as new.

Didn't used to do this. Have tried in different browsers and still the same.

well, for the record, I sold some very expensive foundation- cost £40 new- for over £20 not that long ago- less than a year and it was listed as used. The pot of it came with a spatula and I made it clear that I had used the spatula once to take some foundation out- and it was the wrong colour, eventhough I'd been colour mamtched in the store.

Whoopsy- most people show photos of the item so you can see. I have taken a pic of the eyeshadow so it is possible to see that it's pretty much new except for a slight mark on the top.

Some people are happy to buy products like this, others aren't.

Just like some people would not wear 2nd hand clothes, even after laundering.

Feenie- do you honestly think that anyone would try to sell a product like eye shadow if they'd used it whilst they had raging conjunctivitis. Shock

The onus is on the buyer to assess the item and any risks, IMO.

How do you know your eye bacteria wouldn't cause infection in someone else? Confused

I wouldn't say to someone wanting to borrow my eyeliner 'well, it depends - have you got conjunctivitis?'

And some people are much more prone to nasty eye infections than others.

tethersjinglebellend · 10/12/2011 15:53

amelia, if you are going to sell used eye or lip make up, be prepared for a buyer to complain at some point as they may catch an infection.

That is not a moral judgement, it's good advice.

ameliagrey · 11/12/2011 11:44

That's just silly. It would be totally imposssible to prove for a start.

I think you over estimate how squeemish people are- have you never seen women trying lipsticks in shops and testing them on their lips Shock

It's like saying anyone who buys 2nd hand shoes might catch your athletes foot or a verucca- and then complain to you- or even to the shop where they tried them on with no socks or tights.

No it isn't - eye infections are ridiculously contagious and can be very nasty. You don't fuck about where your eyes are concerned, and sharing eye make up is a well known no no.

Nothing to do with being squeamish/second hand shoes Hmm

Beginning to think you are just a litle bit dim, Amelia.

FabbyChic · 11/12/2011 14:11

ha ha ha fergoose!

Dim!

Feenie · 11/12/2011 14:27

Fergoose? Hmm

ameliagrey · 11/12/2011 14:34

Feenie if you w ant to trade insults, and can't argue without doing so, well so can I!

Althetes foot and veruccas are extremely contagious.

That is why some shoe shops insist you wear their pop socks ( yuck) when you try shoes- not to see if the shoes fit but so you won't contaminate the shoes- I used to work in a shoe shop when i was a uni student.

Also- you must have lived a sheltered life- when I worked in an office years ago, women were forever using each other's eye make up- mascara, eye shadow, etc etc.

Unless you have a medical degree or are an opthamologist then I suggest you do some research as your post is completely OTT.

OP posts:
bruxeur · 11/12/2011 14:41

OP - I have a medical degree. Feenie's right, you're wrong.

bruxeur · 11/12/2011 14:42

And quite, quite disgusting. But that's not a professional opinion, just a common-sense one.

Feenie · 11/12/2011 14:43
Grin
santastooearlymustdache · 11/12/2011 14:43

i don't need a medical degree to know using 2nd hand eye make up gives a high risk of catching an infection.

and anyhow, ebay says no. geddit?

fergoose · 11/12/2011 14:47

eh - what have i done? confuddled Confused

Northernlurker · 11/12/2011 14:51

Yuck - who buys secondhand eye shadow and who would think it ok to sell? Yuckity yuck yuck!

OverTheGardenGate · 02/12/2016 23:50

I haven't got a medical degree but it's pretty obvious that using second hand make up carries a risk of infection. Maybe the people who buy it aren't aware of the risk. I've also never seen anyone trying lipstick in shops anywhere except the back of their hands.

Has anyone mentioned Yuck yet?

dontbesillyhenry · 03/12/2016 00:04

Why the hell has this been bumped from 5 years ago ? Confused

OverTheGardenGate · 03/12/2016 00:33

Whoops. It came up in my current list. Apologies.
I didn't know that could happen. Must be more observant.

anahata · 03/12/2016 16:59

Hi. I've listed a lot of cosmetics. You need to go along with ebay saying list as new. Then in the description I always state in bold letters 'please be aware that you are bodding on an item that's been used once'. Hope this helps.
