Using paypal outside of eBay

hi would appreciate some advice.

Been using local Facebook groups to buy and sell,

Have received interest asking if I would post.

Would prefer not to as wanted to avoid paypal/fees etc.

However what would happen if I did post and then they said not received? Would paypal do the same as eBay?

Thanks

yes they would refund for not received so always best to send with a signature

Thank you.

If it went missing how could I prove what I sold it for- I'm assuming I would reclaim through royal mail. I'm tempted to do it as probably won't achieved as good a price on eBay.

I don't know - maybe the email showing how much the buyer paid you? If it is expensive send via courier or special delivery to be sure it gets there properly tracked.

Paypal's probably the safest way to accept payments for stuff online.

Yes, if things don't arrive, you can claim through them.
If you're worried, it only costs £1 extra to get it signed for on receipt, and you can always get a proof of postage from the Post Office when yo usend stuff.

and if all else fails, you can claim compensation from Royal Mail if something doesn't arrive.

Royal Mail will compensate for the cost of the item to you.
ie: if you claim, you'll get the amount you paid for it, and if the recipient claims, they'll get the amount they paid you.

Paypal fees are pretty reasonable, too.
I've just received a £9.99 payment and Paypal took 45p.

54p
Blush

you could ask the buyer to pay by bank transfer instead - which is free.

nickelbabe · 30/11/2011 15:39

yes, but then you have to worry about he person having her bank details.

sarahtigh · 30/11/2011 15:40

paypal fees are 3.4% plus 20p

paypal will know how much is paid as it will be on original paypal transaction
collect plus is £4-5 signed for upto 5kg in squarish box ie not long tuibe

there is no worry about giving someone your bank details! - it is only what is written on a cheque you would write. They can't use your bank details for anything untoward can they?

Ask for a personal payment it costs nothing to receive unless they fund by card, and they are not covered for item not received, so it does not work the same depending on how you accept the payment.
