i have sold a pair of converse trainers. They are size 9. Customer has emailed me saying that they are 8.5's not 9's. I am sure they are nines but I told her that she can return them for a refund. She got back to me stating that she would be happy to keep them if I knock £10 off. She paid £35 for them. Would you knock off the money or tell her to return them. If they are really a size too small why would you want to keep them

She's trying her luck. Tell her to return for refund.

No I wouldn't give a partial refund. Many sellers won't entertain them - and like you tell buyer to return for a refund.

I agree, why keep them if they are too small? Sounds like they just want them at a cheaper price to be honest - otherwise if they don't fit and are the wrong size them being cheaper won't make any difference surely?

by the way - do Converse do half sizes?

bluesky · 24/11/2011 21:07

i think converse come up small. I bought some size 38 and they are definitely not a 5, they really pinch my feet.

pud1 · 24/11/2011 21:12

Oh works for converse. They do do half sizes but very hard to get in the uk

I have told her to return them. Sent a mail last night. She has still not replied. Up to now it looks like you are right

She's trying her luck I'd say...I've had someone tell me the jumper I sold had a hole in it and ask for partial refund. I advised them to return (why would you wear a jumper with a hole??) and never heard anything about it again.

Let us know if you hear any more though, I find cheeky buyers very entertaining!

If they dont fit why does she want them, they would be an 8.5 in a different country has she looked at the wrong thing on the label?

Tell her to return for a full refund and if they come back as 8.5's pay her the return postage too.

i got a pair of merrell sandals in an auction said size 4 but actually had 36 on label well 37 is a 4 not 36 , when I investigated further realised not real merrells, so asked to send back as wrongly sized and also not merrells at first very reluctant but when I said i thought trading standards would be interested the refund and for 2 way postage was in my account real quick... i sent them back as merrell does not come up small neither do tthey think 36 is a 4

I think she is trying it on as i could not get my feet in sandals they would have been no use even with full refund so how £10 makes tight shoes fit i don't know but you could always ask her to market the secret!!!!!!!!!!

like fabby says if you did make mistake with size you will need to refund postage but even if your mistake not sure how a part refund would help

mostly I avoid partial refunds have given them very occasionally when selling a tea set one of the 6 cups broke in transit so a small refund was in order as it meant they only had 5 and a useless saucer

pud1 · 26/11/2011 10:13

Just received a mail informing me that she would be happy to return but pointing out that I will loose £8 for the postage costs and that she would still accept the £10 refund. Have told her to sod off and return them
