Buyer moved & not updated address in Ebay

I posted an item on Monday and he contacts me today to say that he has moved but forgotten to update his delivery address in Ebay.
Claims he has gone to his old address to ask and no one has received the parcel

I don't want to be horrible but there's not really anything I can do, is there?

It was sent First Class, so I have receipt of posting but obviously no tracking

Obviously I can register it as missing after a month but then won't the forms be sent to the same address as the parcel was - and the person doesn't actually live there....?

I have so far sent a very conciliatory email in the hope that he will come back saying it is his fault not mine and understands I can only dispatch to the buyers address as per email - but what if be doesn't? has this happened to anyone else?

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it, if he files a non receipt dispute you will lose as you never sent signed for anyway. All you can do is refund, I know it's a shit but having a dispute opened against you causes your seller performance to go down.

bubble2bubble · 19/11/2011 18:33

My instinct was to refund as it's just not worth the hassle - £30 though....Sad
I'll give it until Monday and see if he realises what an idiot he's been comes back with anything

Does anyone confirm addresses before posting?
I always check postcodes if they look strange or if the address looks incomplete but as I usually dispatch the same day, checking every address would really slow things up

I only check if there's a discrepancy between the eBay and Paypal addresses. If there is I send a message asking them to clarify.

FabbyChic · 20/11/2011 10:37

There wont ever be a discrepancy between the eBay and Paypal addresses because when they use the checkout it picks the address on the eBay file and places it on the PayPal transaction receipt. eBay and PayPal are now linked.

PoppaRob · 20/11/2011 13:10

Fabby, do you know if that's across all eBay portals or just the UK site? I list on ebay.com.au and had one last week with different addresses.

HeadsRollingInTheAisles · 20/11/2011 13:12

I forgot to change my eBay address and had something sent to the wrong house, my mail forward sorted it out though. It's not your fault.

sarahtigh · 20/11/2011 21:11

I think if he raises a not received claim and you send ebay his email admitting the address was wrong and he has moved i think they will find in your favour as if it had gone to old address someone else could still of signed for it and it would count as received as signed for even though he did not have it

it happenned to me sent something a neighbour or someone signed for it either neighbour did not hand it over or he was lying but i had tracking proof that it was signed for so did not have to refund

if he leaves negative you can always add a polite note... you admitted that you gave me the wrong address, i sent to the address on ebay not my fault that your contact details were wrong

fergoose · 20/11/2011 21:20

No I don't think paypal will find in the sellers' favour to be honest. There is no tracking or proof of delivery.

Bubble, did you put a return address on the item - is it worth contacting the new occupier at the wrong address and ask them kindly to return the parcel to you I wonder?

bubble2bubble · 20/11/2011 21:56

I'm running an Ebay shop so my contact details are inside the parcel.
I am also fairly sure the buyer is an overseas student so - call me cynical - the chances of retrieving a wrongly delivered parcel from a student house are fairly slim

Good point though sarahtigh - I do have his email saying that his ebay addess is wrong which should go in my favour.

Just don't want the hassle - I've been trading since January with 100% positive feedback

1 negative will not make much difference i think most people are happy with 99% feedback too
