Breaking contract because of buyer messing about AND...

11 November Heavy item sold for 99p plus 8 quid postage.
So basically I'll get nothing after Ebay +Paypal fees.
Buyer had not Paypaled, so yesterday (14th) I finally invoiced.
(There were 8 watchers & I got sodding 99p Angry :( )

Anyway, today is 15th, Buyer emails to say can she pay on the 24th as that's when she gets paid.

I know money's tight for folk nowadays, but what are the odds that she'll really have the money come the 24th? And anyway, I'm not inclined to feel very nice about the whole thing, am I, considering I got 99p.

If I advertised locally I bet I could get a fiver, at least.
Would it be immoral to tell her no I can't wait and try to hassle her into mutually breaking the contract to sell/buy. And then I can re-advertise it in free ads.

Else cheer me up with your other ridiculous 99p stories...

nah if i were you i would mail back saying you're sorry you really can't wait that long, would she like to back out?

ragged · 15/11/2011 19:56

I think she still wants it, it's me who's feeling greedy & miffed.

I would file a non performing bidder now, and close in 3 days. She won't be able to leave feedback, you get your fees back. Add her to your blocked bidder list and then you can relist.

Ooh, that sounds harsh fergoose! Not sure I can be that hard.

Well, it's up to you what you do. But what if it gets to the 24th and she doesn't pay then - she could be messing you about and have no intention of paying.

I doubt many sellers would be willing to wait nearly 2 weeks for payment. And all the time you are waiting for her to pay, you could be losing another potential buyer.

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 16/11/2011 03:44

I'm with Fergoose, reply to say "sorry, no can do", open a NPB dispute today and if she can't pay within the next 3 days close it and re-list and block her from future auctions. Or wait until the 24th, potentially still get no payment and close it and re-list on November 28th at the earliest.

I bet if you open a NPB now she'll have paid within the next 3 days :)

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 16/11/2011 08:55

I agree with Fergoose. People shouldn't bid if they're not in a position to pay as soon as they win.

saoirse86 · 16/11/2011 10:14

I agree, open a npb case. It's not that big a deal. If she can suddenly find the money before you close it then she doesn't get any marks against her name. If she doesn't pay you get your fees back (although that's obviously not much in this case) and you can relist or advertise elsewhere. If she couldn't pay she shouldn't have bid.

This is why I have a huge pile of payment instructions when I sell on eBay with what I'll do with non payers, how long I wait for payment etc. And I never list anything at 99p!

ragged · 16/11/2011 12:34

Now she's saying that she'll pay on Monday. Hmm.
I have not commented, but I may well npb it if she doesn't pay up then.
I have been "nice" to other late payers & buyers often before & not regretted it, but we shall see this time!
I admire you hard-arses, just can't quite join your ranks yet.
Thanks for the input.

Why don't you open the dispute now, and then close it on Tuesday if she hasn't paid, saves you waiting another 3 days to close the dispute if she doesn't pay.
