I sold a jumper on eBay. Buyer paid, I sent recorded delivery, she left positive feedback on receipt. End of or so I thought. A few days after the payment was reversed and PayPal emailed me saying I needed to provide tracking info. I no longer have it assuming after feedback the transaction was done.

I emaile the buyer via eBay asking if she knew what had happened she said it was an issue with her bank and she was sorting it out.

I also emailed PayPal via resolution center saying I had received positive feedback from her was that not proof of receipt?

Today they emailed me saying they were not refunding me the money so now I am down £16 and a fat face jumper. Am so annoyed and don't understand what has happened.

The buyer has not responded to my further email asking if she was any further forward.

Any advice would be great.

Many thanks

This happened to me recently. I sold a skirt and the payment was reversed. I took a week but luckily in had not posted the item. The customer said that it was an issue with her bank details so she paid again. This time it was placed on hold but I had already sent the item. I called paypal to ask what they were playing at and they contacted buyer and she confirmed receipt so they just refunded me the money. Can't understand why they won't refund. I would call them

Without the tracking number paypal will refund the buyer

why don't you pull the buyer's details and phone her - ask her when she is going to pay you by cheque or postal order?

This happened to me quite recently.
See"buyer opened a dispute, I don't know why!"
It turns out it was a "bank inquiry" which, I think is along the lines of yours.
Did you go to the PO to post it? Try and look for the record because you will win your case.
It turns out that if there is a problem with the buyer paying, paypal will keep your money so they don't lose out. But you may lose money and the jumper.

There is a reason why paypal can fund their own space programme.
Sounds like your buyer is a cock as well though.

She funded by direct debit bank funding and the payment bounced, even if you had tracking you would not see your money, PayPal do not cover bounced payments.

Can I go back through eBay and open a not paid dispute against her? Failing that I will try contact her as advised above. Just so angry people can get away with that. Have been selling for years and never had a problem and had this the last 2 times I sold but luckily had not posted last time!

Have you emailed her and asked you to pay for the goods? I would do that now to be honest.

I'm not sure if a non paying dispute would work, worth a try, but she did pay (only fleetingly I know) so it may not work.

Also, when you post something recorded, you can go back into the transaction via eBay and enter the tracking info immediately - when you mark it as dispatched. So if in the future a buyer tries a stunt like this, you already have entered in the tracking info.

Not much help now i know, but worth remembering for the future.

Thanks fergoose i will be doing that from now on. I have emailed her again politely asking her to pay by cheque. Will chance my luck with eBay disput also and bug the life out of PayPal!! It is just wrong someone can get away with doing that.

Yes it is wrong. I hope you get your money

Don't forget if no reply you can get her phone number and call or even text - might shame her into paying.

Broodymomma · 15/11/2011 20:55

Thanks for the advice will let you know how it goes

Just a quick update. I got nowhere with this with eBay or PayPal. Emailed the buyer who kept saying she would pay when new cards arrived. I checked her feedback yesterday and noticed she has paid other people so sent her a email basically saying that I had given her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she intended to pay or return item. Now over a month later it was obvious she had no intention of doing either and in my eyes that was theft. I said I don't sell on eBay for nothing and the money she had reversed was intended to go towards my child's Xmas so I hope she thought about that when she next wears the jumper she never paid for.

Low and behold a few hour later I received a full payment. I am in shock she obviously felt bad.

Lesson learnt always always keep tracking details even when you believe transaction is complete. So chuffed and now am off to block her as a buyer!!

excellent result - well done you for standing up for yourself :)

You can always add in tracking details to the item itself as soon as you dispatch it - I always do this so if there is trouble down the line I am not needing to scrabble around through old receipts.

Broodymomma · 27/11/2011 17:13

I will be doing that from now on fergoose thanks. Just got a message from her but just deleted it not interested now I have my money.

no quite right :)

FabbyChic · 27/11/2011 20:00

Tracking gives you no protection against a bounced payment, you have to rely on the buyer to repay again.
