Is there a "good" time to start/end listings?

I'm going to put some stuff on, but I'm not sure whether it is better to finish the auctions on a weekday evening, or weekend evening. Its mostly baby stuff and some maternity clothes. I've sold a couple of things but I want to start selling quite a bit as I'm on maternity leave so want to maximise what I can get for them.

From what I can remember I think it's best to place on a thursday as then you get the weekend viewings which tend to be more than usual.

For baby stuff I'd say best is ending on a Sunday afternoon rather than evening. My thinking is that many parents will be busy with bedtime routines and everyone puts their child to bed at another time, so I rather stay away from that and have it end in the afternoon when most should have time.

I think Monday and Tuesday evenings are the best time to end listings - just don't clash with the soaps.

So if I did a 10 day listing starting on a Friday, finishing on a Monday evening then I would get 2 weekends of potential bidders viewing the items. Might try that.

I think it depends what you are selling, if childrens clothes avoid times like 3pm when on school run, in the week between 8-9.30pm when kids in bed, not friday nigts people go out let kids stay up late etc,

not saturday mornings etc most families out sunday i would say most of day is ok, avoid clashing with x factor and such like

if selling something which may be bought by a business eg antiques etc, avoid sunday evenings most people like some down time

if you sell on free listing weekends remember loads of other people do too so more competition so may not get best price and sell in season, if selling a winter coat sell right now as most people will have already bought one similarly if you have space keep outgrown summer clothes to sell next march april as will get better price

Don't finish on a Fri or Sat evening when lots of people are out, or between 5 and 7 pm (commuting). Beyond that, evenings tend to be better but stuff that parents want to buy doesn't matter too much.

I try to finish on a Sun-Wed evening. You can schedule listings for 6p and then go in and reset them to 'start immediately' at a good time, too!

I had a business selling on ebay and always started/ended on a Sunday evening around 7.30. The theory being that young children would be bedded down, it's a quiet night when most people are in and there's not a lot on the box (until Top Gear started)! So an ideal mooch on the laptop time. My stuff was mainly bought by men though.

I read somewhere that Thursday and Sunday evenings are generally good times.

Thanks all.

Notcitrus - I'm a bit confused about the paying to schedule listing - do you mean that if you pay to schedule the listing and then go back in and start it immediately at an earlier time, you don't pay the 6p?? I guess I'm trying to work out if you can type up all your listings and save them somehow so that you can go back in and start them at the time you want without having to type them all in at the time you want the listing to start. Not sure if I'm making much sense!

saratigh - there are a couple opf buggies that I'm going to save for a free listings weekend because I want to start them at a reasonable price. Other than that, I think I can start at 0.99 for most things and avoid those fees. I've got a winter maternity coat that I need to sell but I've bagged up some some maternity clothes and will try and sell those next year as you suggested.

louey - that's exactly what I mean! Cunning eh? If you forget to change the time then it's only 6p...
There's various software you can use to create+save listings but it's mainly a bit crap and Ebay don't let you upload from it for free listings, so the scheduling trick is much easier.

If stuff doesn't sell and then you want to re-list on a free listing day, you have to do 'sell similar' to relist the item as otherwise you don't get the free listing.

Other tip for selling clothes is buy some 'plastic mailing bags' - about £4 for 30, as they are much lighter than jiffy bags etc, so you can charge same/ slightly less than others for postage without losing out. It's so much easier than re-using packaging! You'll need sticky labels or paper and sellotape for the address though.

That is cunning, and very useful. Thank you!

Thanks for tips -- planning on relisting some things that did not sell on last free listing day using these tips.
