How long do you give a buyer to pay?

I sold something on Sunday - lots of bidders but winning bidder hasn't paid yet. Is there a set time to give them? Thanks

I was told that 96 hours was the minimum before you opened a dispute with eBay. I sold something on Wednesday last week and intended to post Friday before the holiday but my buyer paid only yesterday and now I can't post until I get back. Most normally pay within

boogiewoogie · 25/10/2011 18:49

24 hours. Blasted mini laptop that I'm not used to.

fergoose · 25/10/2011 18:57

you have to wait 4 days to start the unpaid item dispute, which you then close on day 7 if no payment received.

Then you get fees back and you can relist or 2nd chance offer to underbidder.

Thanks - she must have heard as she's just paid Grin

I have the same problem, but with two items. Also finished on Sunday.

I guess it must be taking time to scrape together the 99p...

fergoose is it 7 days from when the auction ends, or 7 days from when you start the unpaid item dispute?

Both buyers have c1000+ feedback, so I'm guessing it's an oversight rather than anything more sinister?

Crikey, you lot are impatient; I would at least email buyer a few times before filing unpaid dispute, btw. Weird things can happen, computers crash, family emergencies, life's other distractions, etc. One buyer emailed me after 2 days to say she was having trouble with Paypal, she ended up paying another week later, no harm done to me by having to wait that bit extra.

Only NPB I ever had was about 6 years ago, a teenager using his mum's account with authorisation.

fergoose · 26/10/2011 08:54

Isitme you can start the dispute after 4 days, and close it on day 7.

ragged - I've obviously sent them a reminder invoice yesterday morning. Still nothing. TBH for the amount they sold for, it's more that it's hardly worth my bothering. I'm beginning to think that they must feel the same Sad.

IsItMeOr · 26/10/2011 09:26

Oh, and I can see from feedback that one of them at least has already paid for something else that they won after my auction ended. So problems with t'internet doesn't sound plausible.

ragged · 26/10/2011 14:13

That f/back thing confuses me, because the time window is very small for them to win since Sunday and pay & get f/back already (I mean, as a seller, I never give fb until after buyer gave fb, must have been lightening fast delivery).
Are you sure?

fergoose · 26/10/2011 15:05

Some sellers give feedback immediately after payment is received, or when they dispatch an item.

IsItMeOr · 26/10/2011 15:08

Yes, I'm sure - the feedback related to this. Ended Monday, so far as I can tell.

As a buyer I've always had feedback as soon as I've paid, so that was what I've done now I've started selling. Is that wrong?

fergoose · 26/10/2011 15:46

No it's not wrong at all - is entirely up to you when you leave feedback.

Sellers used to wait to leave it when they were able to leave negs, then if they got a bad feedback they could respond with a bad neg.

IsItMeOr · 26/10/2011 17:11

Thanks fergoose :)

if your listing ends on friday, saturday, or sunday people maybe away for weekend often people set up bids so though they win at 9pm they are not there , sometimes when people buy loads they pay in one go every few days maybe

most people pay within 24hours, whatever you say in your listing about payment in 48 hours etc you have to give 4 days, mostly I would send invoice/reminder after 48hours , then give at least another 48 hours, if a bank holiday weekend or similar would give longer

as a buyer I generally leave feedback within a few days, if I was not happy i would email you first before leaving feedback

as a seller i leave feedback after payment for low value items but for higher value items i wait until they have left feedback if they don't well that's fine by me

IsItMeOr · 28/10/2011 13:46

Thanks sarah - I raised a non-payment dispute yesterday, and they paid this morning, so all sorted. I guess you're probably right about them being away and/or only logging in periodically.

I get terribly excited when I win anything, so pay straight away. But I suspect I'm a bit of a saddo Grin.

This is a really useful thread - I haven't been ebaying long but sold a coat of my DS's last Saturday and haven't been paid. Have already emailed once and will now mail again, saying if I don't get the payment by tomorrow I'll open a case with Ebay. Thing is, the buyer is showing as a complete new starter so it may be she doesn't know how it all works? But whatever, still need to move it on, if possible.

sarahtigh · 30/10/2011 15:12

don't threaten them send second invoice say sunday 4pm give a minimum of 14hours so wait till at least 9pm on monday then open a non payment case it is all very simple most done automatically

fergoose · 30/10/2011 15:35

I would just open a case to be honest now - then if they don't pay in 3 days close it and get your fees back. They've already had 8 days so I doubt they will pay now.
