What would you prefer? Refund or bump up, on postage?

Usually if I overcharge I bump up if it's only a little out, if it's more I bump up and refund.

But would you prefer bump up or refund?

By bumping up, I mean fron 2nd Class to 1st Class.

No-one has complained, I am just interested what your responses would be.

How much overcharging are you talking about? Do you belong to the school of thought that a buyer should be charged zero for packaging and time, and only charged the same as seller's cost with Royal Mail?

I think most buyers don't care if they're slightly "over charged", as long as the overcharge isn't obscene, especially not compared to actual purchase price or actual postage.

Would depend on the difference really. Don;t forget you will also be charging for packaging and getting it to the PO which for me a 3 miles away.

35p for packing & paypal costs and I need the exercise so walk 1/2 mile to the PO locally.

My thought is if I've over charged and it's over by more than £1 I usually bump &/or refund. My new kitchen scales are much more accurate so I've only been out by £2 maximum. Would tgat bother you?

I would think of 2-2.50+ over postage as a cheeky overcharge.
Below 1.50, not an issue. You can have the 1 quid for the Mars Bar you need to make it home from the PO. [hwink]
I am amazed that people really notice.... the only time I got annoyed over excess postage was a guy who wanted to charge 3 quid for P+P; I asked if he could send it by 2nd class to keep costs down. He said yes, fine. 2nd class cost him 1.25 and he still charged me 3 quid!

But at the time the Ebay forums told me to suck it up, he had stated the postage amount and I was accepting that when I bid.

Oh, but to answer your question (finally), I would have preferred a refund rather than faster postal service, if postage was that much different. I would never buy anything on Ebay expecting quick delivery, anyway, too risky.

That is what I am starting to think, refund rather than bump. I've just recieved a parcel today that someone bumped, but woukd have been fine 2nd class and a refund, she originally overcharged me by £4, but now she's bumped me it's 1.50 difference, would have asked for a partial refund if she hadn't bumped me.

you can still ask for refund as the invoice you paid for will be for economy delivery, you could email her and say that posyting 1st cclass instead of second to avoid refund is silly as if she refunded you £2 she would have had paypal fees returned on the £2

I would be annoyed at being bumped, if a breakable with lots of bubble wrap boc etc, £1-1.50 over cost is acceptable,if a sleepsuit more than 50p extra is too much,

as a seller i refund automatically, ( if I thought it would cost £3.25 second class so i charged £3.50 resonable ... but when it was weighed it only cost £2.16 second class i would refund 80p-£1 depending on how much packaging it needed)
