Hi

I have purchased an item and the seller will not send it by royal mail but is insisting on using a courier company. It is only a jersey top nothing big.

Seller is asking for my phone number to arrange delivery but I am not willing to do this.

Can anyone advise me of my options?

Thanks

what does the auction say - did you ask before bidding. If they don't offer a cheaper royal mail method in their listing you can't demand it.

the seller already will have your number from checkout anyway

ChablisLover · 19/10/2011 08:42

Thanks fergoose

The listing did say other courier but just thought I would ask.

Never dealt with courier via eBay before and I am being cautious about proceeding that's all.

Will give number at checkout and go from there

how much are they charging for a courier anyway?

you won't need to give your number at checkout - it will be there already.

ChablisLover · 19/10/2011 09:53

They are charging £2

Not unreasonable but just strange for a jersey top. Apparently she has has issues in the past with royal mail and she pays a lot of money for the courier service.

She seems to sell just clothing items so I wonder why the courier. I am just dubious about it that's all.

I guess she gets a good deal with them to only charge £2 - I kind of agree with royal mail being useless on occasion. I don't think they are being dodgy, just careful and protecting themselves. Many recorded delivery items are delivered with no signature, leaving sellers wide open for chargebacks.

Hungrydragon · 19/10/2011 10:01

Sounds normal to me, I used a courier I trust before on some buyers with low feedback yo ensure I get POD, was it a high value item?

ChablisLover · 19/10/2011 10:15

No not at all

Is only a jersey top no more than a few quid.

Plus I have really good feedback 165 at 100%.

Are you nearby perhaps she intends to deliver herself?

ChablisLover · 19/10/2011 14:41

Doubt it. She is in London I'm in northern Ireland. Have emailed her and asked if that makes a difference. I'm sure £2 won't even cover petrol to airport!

fergoose · 19/10/2011 14:48

I bet she posts items from her work for free on their account.

sarahtigh · 21/10/2011 19:05

if she sells loads will have bulk pick up and they will take all parcels where ever they are going it is the same with many businesses next charge about $4 for everything whether 1 top or 10 as they will have a perparcel deal

also collect+ even for 1 item is about £4 and you get signature upto 5kg, with royal mail with signature that would cost £11-12

royal mail maybe cheaper but if she specifies a courier for £2 you can not really argue maybe courier picking up is cheaper and less time than her driving to PO and stanidng in queue with 15 parcels

JarethTheGoblinKing · 21/10/2011 19:07

Even a small top would prob cost £1.60 to post, £2 for courier is a bargain.

If the listing said courier, then you can't exactly argue with her. Just let her deliver the top!

ChablisLover · 21/10/2011 20:03

Have just gone with it. Let the courier deliver but she diesn't sell loads. 100% feedback of 120 odd.

Strange but will teach me to read listings more carefully in future.

This is a bit of a non issue really, you have only been charged £2.00 postage, as long as you recieve it ok and are happy with the item, Does it really matter how it gets to you??

jimswifein1964 · 29/10/2011 12:38

Ye, I'd say it does matter. I hate couriers, because if I miss a delivery, I'm stuffed. Royal Mail sorting office is only a 10 min walk to collect missed items, but courier depot is 2hrs by bus or call the high-rate number to reschedule, only to find out they cant do Saturdays or timed etc etc!

sarahtigh · 29/10/2011 14:25

yes jim but the listing actually said courier so OP knew that in advance she wanted them to change if she did not want a courier she should either not bid or asked if it could be by royal mail before auction ended

jimswifein1964 · 30/10/2011 11:34

Ah, you're right - my apologies. Got a bit caught up in my own personal hatred of couriers there Grin
