but the Paypal email was VERY vague..

Something along the lines of 'scan proof of postage and email it to the paypal consultant'...eh? No link, nothing formal to follow!

It's £123 for a blackberry

Is this normal? Nothing showing in Paypal account.

Sounds like a scam to me.

How did you sell the item? I don't suppose the BlackBerry is going off to somewhere in West Africa, is it?

Don't send the BlackBerry.

I had it on Gumtree and has several emails with the buyer as she decided to buy it. It was me who suggested paypal, that's why I think it's weird.

I sent a money request to her, she paid, and this weird paypal email came through.

They want it posted to Manchester (i'm in Newcastle)

No, it's not a scam. It's very common for high value items. Log into your paypal account and all the details will be there.

Send it special delivery for that value then give paypal the tracking information.

ThisIsMyLogIn · 26/05/2011 09:04

Give the paypal tracking info to who? There is no link or instructions of what to do! Nothing in Paypal account to follow to do with tracking post?! Confused Confused!

OK maybe you should phone paypal then

Payments are often held with high value/likely to scam items so this is not unusual if you have sold a phone. Is the money actually in your paypal account? Can you click next to the payment itself? If the money is not there then I guess it must be a scam

If you do send the item you must send it special delivery - anything less and you won't be covered for loss or damage. Is the buyer in the UK by the way?

ThisIsMyLogIn · 26/05/2011 11:13

The emails 'from paypal' were full of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors and urgent deadlines or else my account would be blocked!

The weirdest bit was it said to scan my payment tracking slip and email it to them no reference or person mentioned just (all very informal for a massive company?) but not to tell the buyer the postage details until money is received.

My paypal showed up my invoice but nothing in the received payments.

Instincts have told me to cancel everything.

Here is one of them - with poor English highlighted!

Thanks for using PayPal. The reference number of the postage is needed to be verified before your account can be credited. We are doing this to protect both the buyers and sellers from scams that is highly going on. The funds has already been deducted from the buyer's account and pending to be paid into your Account.
In other to make it more convenient for you, we require the scanned receipt of the shipment after the item has been posted, for us to verify the shipment of the item, please provide it to us within the next 24 hours and your account will be credited immediately.

NOTE: Do not send the reference number to the buyer till your account is credited, send it to our consultant at ([email protected]).

More poor English..

This fund has been deducted from (XXXXXXXXX.com) and will be credited into your account immediately our database update is completed.

Get in touch with paypal and check what is going on. You are right, that is a very odd email, and quite possibly not from them. If that is the case you need to make them aware of it and to find out if there are any special arrangements regarding sending your item.

ThisIsMyLogIn · 26/05/2011 11:33

I emailed that [email protected] last night funny, no reply yet.

Not sending phone and have clicked cancel on all ref to it in my Paypal account. I have just noticed that in one of the mails it says £130!! (when it is £123) - this is dodgey!

oh right it is a scam then

ask for bank transfer in future - no fees either

ThisIsMyLogIn · 26/05/2011 12:19

I have just been googling it - it is definatley a scam!! They are now using UK addresses to make it look less so.

Have just go a 'postmaster failure to deliver ' notification back from the above address. Can't believe this! I have never experienced this before

BEWARE ANY GUMTREE INTEREST FROM JESSICA SIMPSON!!
