I've just received an email from a buyer, wanting to return an item that was damaged in the post. I've never done a return before: what's the deal? Do I have him post it back then refund - presumably I am obligated to pay the hefty return postage as well? But if I don't have him post it back, I can't tell if he is trying it on or not, can I. Gah. Advice please!

You could ask for pictures first. Generally I do this and if it is beyond repair just refund including out going postage. If you think it is salvagable have them send it back, but this is also at your cost.

If you have a postage receipt you may be able to claim from the PO.

Ask for it back, tell him once you have checked the item and your security markings you will refund him.

He doesn't know you haven't marked it with a UV pen or whatever.

Ok thanks - my gut instinct is that he is genuine but you never can tell can you
