ebay purchase dilemna

Last week I bought an air bed for our forthcoming camping trip. I've just had an operation and wanted a bed hat was high off the ground to make it easier for me. This one was perfect and I drove 20 miles to pick it up. The seller was a lovely old lady who gave the impression she wasn't too experienced with eBay.

I've just inflated it and its not the same as the picture on eBay- its only about ten inches off the ground and is a different colour.

I'd appreciate some advice- I can't drive for another week so couldn't return it ( and would be loathe to pay for petrol twice when its not my mistake) and we go away in ten days. I also don't know what I can expect to happen and would rather not upset the (lovely) seller.

Any suggestions? Should I chalk it up to experience?

how much did you pay and how did you pay?

fergoose · 20/05/2011 19:33

did the seller not take pictures of the actual item

I would just email them and say you are disappointed as it is not as described and see what they say

they may offer a partial refund or do you want to return it for a full refund

NeatFreak · 20/05/2011 20:53

It was £25 and I paid by paypal.
There was a picture but it was a catalogue picture- item description and title matched the picture as I compared it to other items on ebay.

So how come you didn't realise it was the wrong item?
£25 sounds expensive

Email the seller and explain it's not as described and you want a refund
As you paid by pay pal you should be able to get your money back

I didn't see it inflated but it was in a bag with the correct brand name on it. I was in a rush and didn't have time to check it before I took it home.
It's a self inflating mattress so that was a pretty good price. Just a shame I can't use it!

Should've said, I've emailed her but feel guilty as she was so lovely! Ebay seems to suggest that if I get a refund I'll be liable for return postage, which would be expensive and I can't drive for at least a week to return it in person.

so the seller used a stock photo which was misleading

she may have been lovely but she hasn't given you what was listed

I would ask her for a refund, and tell her if she wants the item she can pay return postage or come and collect it herself.

EldonAve · 20/05/2011 22:07

It's a bit dodgy but you can do a chargeback as she can't prove delivery

NeatFreak · 20/05/2011 22:09

Thanks. Fingers crossed I get it sorted. We are going camping next Monday and need the bed before then so I hope it'll be sorted in time Sad

If you're trying to get your money back via the paypal system you will have to send it by some kind of signed for delivery as they want to see proof of return.

Hopefully the lady will be happy to refund you without you having to resort to paypal ebay system and will make things much easier.
