I am planning to sell some of DC's clothing on ebay.

I am thinking that for UK buyers I will probably post them by second class post and get proof of postage.

However, can anyone advise me whether I would be better to use recorded delivery.

Thank you

I wouldn't bother if it was me. Recorded post just ends up with the ordinary post anyway. You just have a signature at the other end to tell you it's delivered.
Special delivery, on the other hand, is kept separate from the other post and is more secure. But too expensive for sending kids clothes.
I used to sell my daughters clothes on ebay and 2nd class packets was fine.

if a buyer doesn't receive an item you have no online proof of delivery if you don't use recorded, and they will get their money back.

Mind you many sellers take the risk, an extra 70 odd pence per item to send recorded, or save the money and have to refund for the odd missing item out of your own pocket. You can always claim from Royal Mail but I think you need the buyer to sign their form to say they didn't receive an item. Of course some unscrupulous buyers will pretend not to receive an item, won't co-operate with Royal Mail and you will lose your item and your money.

I always send recorded otherwise you won't have a leg to stand on with paypal if there is a problem.

I usually use 2nd class and have had no problems so far. I think it depends on what it is really. I would only send items recorded that are expensive or new.

fergoose · 08/05/2011 12:58

I guess it depends on the value of an item too. I would send anything over a tenner recorded, over £40 courier or special delivery. If it is just a £2 top I am prepared to post first class only and take the risk.

Agree with fergoose.

I tend to avoid items sent by RD as its a paini n the bum if you are not in to collect.

out of 200 plus items i have sent in the last year, none have gone missing.

I send everything recorded delivery now as have had too many buyers claiming they didn't get the item.

I actually caught one out by saying " oh that's funny, the recorded delivery status is showing a signature" ( I ahdn't sent it recorded) and he replied with "huh? there was no recorded delivery sticker on the item" so he ahd obviously recieved it yet was still claiming he hadn'tHmm. paypal and ebay still upheld the decision to refund him though.

Paypal and Ebay always always rule in favour of the buyer, the seller's aren't important to them, so in answer to your OP, I would send recorded
