Calculating postage - heavy box!

My dad has asked me to sell an old reel-to-reel player on eBay for him. It weighs about 14kg.
Previously I have only ever sold postable things on eBay (books etc) so I'm not sure how to go about this!

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap courier? Or it is best to stick with "buyer collects"?

Hi, i've sold heavy things on ebay - you can still use the post office, they have leaflets with prices in or an online price calculator. if a listing has a maximum postage rate i think from memory you can put it as freight and then give the postage price in the description. hope this helps.

Have got a current Royal Mail pricelist I picked up this morning Smile

You can send it Standard Parcel within the UK for £15.86 up to 20kg. You can add insurance to that for a few extra quid.

Have a shop round and see if you can get a better deal, or do 'buyer collects.'

Look at parcel2go.com - they offer all the different courier companies and prices are great. You put in parcel size and weight for instant quotes.

Another good service is the shops called Mailboxes Etc. They have great staff who know all the combinations, of service/company/weight/timing etc, and also do wrapping etc, so if you can get to one of em, they will take care of it all.
