I pop a little postcard in just saying Thanks for purchasing, hope you like it

I also tied poncey grosgrain ribbon round some Ikea bedding I sold recently

I thinkabout what I woudl like to receive

sixlostmonkeys · 06/04/2011 00:29

all those many many moons ago when I started on ebay I remember receiving my first packet through the post and I was rather disappointed that there was no note of any kind enclosed (I actually tipped the jiffy bag and shook it). Just like cybbo says, I thought what I wanted to receive myself so I have always sent a little note simply saying thank you etc.

I don't put anything in the parcels, but I do send an email when I post the item saying something along the lines of:

"Thank you for your speedy payment, your item was posted today and should reach you within the next few days. If you are happy with your item when it arrives, please take the time to leave feedback. If there is a problem, please email me before leaving feedback so that I can try to sort it out. Many thanks, and I hope you are pleased with your purchase."

I reckon this does encourage people to leave feedback (I have about 75% of buyers leave FB) and also hopefully means that people who are unhappy for some reason will actually tell me about it rather than just leave bad FB without giving me a chance to put it right. I get good ratings for Comms, so I think people appreciate it.

I hate it when no note is enclosed.

I print out the Packing slip from PayPal and enclose that. It gives both party's addresses and the item number and cost and says Thank You for purchasing. That is enough info for the post office to re-route it if the outside packaging gets completely wrecked. It also tells the buyer which purchase it is. Once I bought the same item from two different sellers and it wasn't clear which one had arrived!

How funny ... I think quite the opposite !

I hate it when I get something with a begging note inside or wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a raffeta bow.

I think fgs I'm buying some of your second hand tat - dont try and make it anything different.

I tend to sell my childrens clothes and just wrap them in a clear plastic bag and then wrap in brown paper. I think it personalises things less which makes it more attractive, especially if it is second hand .

Anaxagora · 08/04/2011 12:10

The only time I make an extra effort with the packaging is when something has sold for far more than I think it's worth, and I feel I should soften the blow a bit before the buyer realises that they have just spent £14 on what is essentially a knackered old Mini Boden fleece that's had three children's worth of wear already. Blush

NestaFiesta · 11/04/2011 13:18

I enlose a little note to say thanks and best wishes and if it's clothes I wrap it in a sheet of tissue. I recived a top in a bin bag stinking of fags once so I kind of want to do the opposite.

TheMonster · 11/04/2011 13:22

Anaxagora do you really sell clothes that have been worn by three children already? Shock

I used to put notes in with stuff that I sold but I don't bother anymore. I do, however, always use new postage bags to send items, and I expect the same. I can't stand it when you get something in a second hand postage bag that has been turned inside out so the grotty, dirty side is against the item.

Anaxagora · 11/04/2011 14:08

Well I wouldn't normally, but this was one of those classic half-zip fleeces in nice navy/red colour combinations that Boden don't so anymore , so I thought someone might want to take it off my hands. I described it very honestly, but really wasn't expecting it to go for more than a couple of quid. But as they say, it's worth what someone's prepared to pay for it, and the buyer left very cheery feedback, so obviously felt her £14 was well spent. Who am I to argue?
