I put my travel system on eBay last weekend. Starting bid £35 collection only

I have had one enquiry from someone local, then another enquiry from. Woman who wants me to sell it o her now and take it off auction. I said I'd take £40which she is happy to pay, but she wants it posting, which I imagine will be a fortune, it's a car seat as well.

I have just noticedin her eba feedback that she bought a travel system back in January.

Dh said wh do I care as long as I sell it, but should I be worried. Should I let the auction run? My item has 4 watchers but no bids

I'd let it run. I assume you've got it set up for collection only? Posting will be a PITA and cost £££££.

I had someone make an offer for me to end an auction only item, I said no though. Would rather do it by the book.

mosschops30 · 05/03/2011 21:26

She reckons it will be about £15 which seems cheap for a large pushchair, car seat, rain cover and footmuff.

I don't know what to do. I just wanted someone to pick I up. If it's £30 to post she's gonna want her money back isn't she

You could tell her to arrange a courier at her own expense? I agree it'll cost more than £15 to send

Honeydragon · 05/03/2011 22:59

Get her to arrange a courier, tbf you could get two boxes couriered for £15, but what about packing charges etc?

If I bid on pick up only I ask before bidding if they mind packing for a courier and offer a few quid for packaging, although this has always been refused. So I'd definitely suggest she organises pick up.

Or hope if you run someone local gets it.

Thanks. I have looked on parcel force and for th weigt would be £21. But like o say that's no including getting it packed, packing material, suitable boxes, I wouldn't even know where to start, and the added hassle if anything gets broken on the way.

I had this recently with a stroller and carseat I put for pickup only. I had someone ringing me who was clearly a dealer and wanted me to post it to London (I love in Gloucs). He was quite aggressive on the phone. I told him in the end I'd let the auction run and if he won he could arrange his own pick up. He didn't, BTW.

mosschops30 · 05/03/2011 23:39

The fact she bought a travel system last month makes me wonder if it's a similar thing?

What system are you selling? She may just be trying to get in with a bargain. Travel systems and prams sell higher if postage is offered usually.

FabbyChic · 06/03/2011 14:08

Do not get her to arrange a courier, you have no proof of delivery if she files a dispute for non receipt.

You have to be able to prove via online tracking an item has arrived if you get a dispute for non receipt. You cannot do that if you (a) take PayPal for a collection only item (b) allow someone to arrange their own courier.

It might take two listings to sell, research shows that things generally sell the second time around.

Honeydragon · 06/03/2011 14:12

Fabby, is that true? I always ask for their tracking details in good faith, to check its got there.

So basically they can file against me is they don't receive the item through their courier? That's put me off big time.

Thankyou for letting me know Smile

mosschops30 · 06/03/2011 18:30

I spoke with her today and said I couldn't send by post as was too much hassle.
Oddly she rang me from an 0845 number and even more oddly, wasn't quite sure where in the uk her town was Hmm so even if it doesn't sell I'm glad I didn't get involved in all that.

Flabby what do you Jean about accepting pay pal for collection only items, that's what I'm doing!

Still 4 watchers bu no bids

I have often paid Paypal for collection only, I can't see why that would be an issue?

Fenouille · 06/03/2011 19:01

The problem is that you have no proof of posting (as it was a collection) so if they claim the goods were not received (even if it is a fraudulent claim) paypal will automatically issue a refund as you can't prove it was delivered.

FabbyChic · 07/03/2011 20:36

I have accepted PayPal for collection items, but only lowish value.

Cash is obviously better no PayPal fees, and eBay do not entertain disputes for collection items either for items not as described.

There was a recent case on these boards where someone sold a laptop and the person collected from a pre-arranged placed, the buyer paid via PayPal, the buyer went home and initiated a chargeback and the person lost all their money and their laptop because they could not prove via online tracking the buyer had the item.
