Can I sell outside e-bay if an item already has bids?

I am selling quite a valuable item and have had many bids and loads of watchers. However someone has contacted me asking if I will sell outside e-bay. The price they have offered is about what I wanted to make for the item and I would be happy to accept. However I am not sure if this is allowed and if it is, what is the deadline before auction ending time to remove the listing as I do not want to remove it until the person turns up with the money.

U can remove bids any time prior to sale. Just click on help link and look up cancel bids section and u can cancel bids giving reason as already sold.

What the prospective buyer is doing is against Ebay rules, unless you have stated that the item is for sale elsewhere and they have come from that other source. If you do decide to sell it to this person, you lose all protection.

Yes you can, you can end your listing, when you do this it will also cancel all the bids.

Do not end your listing until the buyer has paid.

Send them a request for payment from your PayPal account and put on it goods. Once you have received payment end your listing.

You cannot however end your listing if there are less than 12 hours left for it to run.

Take no notice of those that say you shouldnt blah blah. You are not supposed to, there is no law to say you cannot.

You do not lose any protection at all, if you send your buyer a request for payment for goods. If you send signed for you are still protected by seller protection.

Seller Protection is the only protection you get by PayPal when you are using it to receive funds.

eBay offers sellers no protection so saying you have no protection is bollocks and utter rubbish.

As an aside you are not allowed to put on the listing item is for sale elsewhere, that also contravenes eBay rules.

Jeez someone posted a load of shit.
