Buyer says she has changed her mind WWYD?

DP is currently selling a whole load of his fishing gear on ebay.

A couple of days after he listed the things he got a message asking if he would sell 2 of the lots together on buy it now. He politely refused as he wanted the auction to run. The buyer then bid on just one of the items.

Just before the auctions were due to finish the same buyer sent a message saying they would bid on another 2 items, so 3 in all if we would waive postage Hmm(we are talking large rods etc so they wanted us to knock a lot of money off!) Again DP declined.

At the end of the auction the buyer had won the original item they bid on but was out bid on another.

We then received a message saying she has changed her mind - that the item she has won is no good without the others etc etc.
Basically wasting our time when we are counting on the money from these sales.

What do we do now? Agree to cancel transaction? Report her to ebay?

I am more an 'anything for a quiet life' and a bit daft soft and wouldn't want my stuff going to someone who didn't want it - I would email ebay and tell them the buyer has asked if she can be 'let off' buying them and you have agreed to it and that you will be relisting the items - or contact the other bidders if you have details.

Figgyrolls · 12/01/2011 14:00

I agree with Chipping, just make sure that you ban her from doing the same thing again, I am assuming you haven't sent the item out yet?

It is a bit of a pain but hopefully you will find another buyer.

LoveBeingADaddysGirl · 12/01/2011 14:03

Were you happy with the last bid before them? You could send a second chance offer.

FrequentNutter · 12/01/2011 16:05

You wait until day four and initiate a non receipt dispute, four days later you close it, then they cannot leave feedback.

FrequentNutter · 12/01/2011 16:06

I would not allow them to cancel the transaction, if you initiate a cancellation of transaction and they refuse you still pay the fees, also they can still leave feedback.

scurryfunge · 12/01/2011 16:10

Cynical old me would suspect they are deliberately buggering up the transaction because they didn't get what they wanted originally.

What is their feedback like generally?

ChippingIn · 12/01/2011 18:13

FrequentNutter sounds like she knows what she's on about - I'd listen to her!

Scurryfunge - of course she is, that's pretty obvious - the question is, how to handle it and actually I think FN has answered that quite well now.

scurryfunge · 12/01/2011 18:17

ChippingIn, so you can offer an opinion by I can't. Thanks.

ChippingIn · 12/01/2011 18:23

No Scurry - I didn't mean it like that. All I meant was that the woman is clearly a pain in the arse who just wanted the item if she won them all and is now trying it on! That I thought it was predictable from her emails that she would do this (and I would have banned her from bidding on it) and that FN seems to know the wasy eBay works and had come up with a better solution that my earlier one - that's all - no offence intended. Sorry if I upset you.

scurryfunge · 12/01/2011 18:31

That's ok, thanks. You know I am a sensitive soul.Grin

SoupDragon · 12/01/2011 18:32

Id file a non paying bidder thingy against her.

ChippingIn · 12/01/2011 18:42

I know Scurry and I really am sorry if I upset you x :) I'm having a tough day today and so probably not being as careful as I should be when posting. I may have to preview all posts tonight!

scurryfunge · 12/01/2011 18:43

I do tend to have a habit of stating the bleedin' obvious Grin

Sorry I've only just got back to the thread. Thanks for everyone's advice.
I will wait the 4 days and file a non payment thingy. And also block her from future auctions.

Suprisingly her feedback is fine but that doesn't mean that she hasn't done this befor e does it?

Anyway cheers everyone Smile

I think filing a nonpayment thing doesn't give negative feedback to the bidder, but it does get counted on ebay (in a hidden way), and if she gets two nonpayment hits then a lot of sellers will not allow someone with 2 or more nonpayment hits to bid on their items.

So just that she doesn't have negative feedback, doesn't mean she hasn't done it before.

Non payment thing is better than a "request to cancel transaction" thing, as you definitely don't end up being charged any fees (and if the buyer declines the "cancellation request" then you get charged fees still), and there is no way for the bidder to leave negative feedback in revenge.

I think I have got that right - I had to look into this a couple of months ago on a sale.
