Selling large item for collection, best to ask for cash on collection or to pay through paypal before picking up?

Just after some advice really, I have sold lots on ebay, but never a large item to be collected.

Just wondering what was the norm, or which was better, obviously you wouldn't have paypal fees on cash, but not sure if that would be leaving myself open to being conned (although not sure how??! Grin)

More likely to be conned if paying by Paypal and collecting - they can claim they never received the item, open a dispute and get a refund after they actually collected it. Having a signed receipt or similar makes no difference as Paypal need proof of postage to validate a sellers claim, so definitely offer cash on collection only, not Paypal.

Cash on collection only so they can peruse before they leave with it, showing they actually wanted it.

As Dinosaur said you have no proof of delivery for a collection item for an INR.

Cash on collection only as stated by the others......

Excellent, thank you, I put cash on collection or paypal before, so I will change my listing just now.

Makes sense, thanks Smile

I normally insist on a cleared cheque before collection as I got fed up of people winning auctions by a couple of pence and then turning up and haggling over the price or turning up with (oh dear) a pound or two short (or not turning up at all after weeks of trying to get a time/day to suit them).

That's terrible MrsFogi!

I actually sold the item on Gumtree and someone is coming for it on Saturday (it is a high sleeper) which works out well as the new bed arrives then too.

Hopefully, everything will go to plan!

I sold a Pashley bike just before Christmas and did it through Paypal but be warned that sometimes Paypal will run a security check and quarantine payment if it is a v high amount. I have to say that the chap that I dealt with was incredibly helpful and the payment was processed within a couple of hours.

I just did not like the idea of being paid when they collected the bike.
