DH bought some tools on Ebay.

They arrived today as a gift via Amazon.

Turns out that Amazon are selling them for £4 cheaper than DH paid - so seller just sent them to my DH direct from Amazon.

Cheeky bugger.

(DH says the Amazon price has been discounted between DH doing his price research and the seller dispatching the item, as originally the item was a couple of pounds more on Amazon).

Not sure whether to laugh or get cross.

That is a bit cheeky. I would laugh though - it is only £4 not £40. Xmas Grin

classydiva · 01/01/2011 00:23

why is it cheeky? people are allowed to do it.

just because you did not do your homework first why should a seller be penalised, you paid what you thought they were worth.

It is called drop shipping, it allows sellers to sell goods at a higher price because buyers are too lazy to look elsewhere.

piprabbit · 01/01/2011 11:24

Calm down diva - who is being penalised? Certainly not the seller, who is making a nice profit.

And DH did do homework first - but the prices shifted afterwards. He is kicking himself for not double and treble checking (himself note - not the seller).

the Op could leave a neutral or even a neg or even knock the sellers stars, the seller then would be penalised.

DilysPrice · 01/01/2011 21:20

Why would he want to penalise them? Presumably OP's DH thought that this was a reasonable price to pay, and the items were as described?

It might be that the eBay seller is the same outfit as the amazon seller. Just sells off a bit extra through eBay to cover fees

PuraVida · 01/01/2011 21:36

Duh that doesn't make sense. I mean Amazon is lots of different sellers now isn't it. It's prob the same guy but he charges more when selling via eBay to cover their fees

piprabbit · 02/01/2011 18:42

Okay - I didn't post to ask advise on how to get revenge on the seller - just impressed by the cheek. Neither DH or I were ever planning to give feedback, product was provided quickly and as advertised so deserves positive feedback

But the item did not come direct from the seller - it arrived with an Amazon gift receipt i.e. ordered direct (by the seller) from Amazon themselves and sent to an alternative address as a gift.

but paypal charge a percentage, ebay charge 10% plus a listing fee...the seller must be making very little.
and fwiw, i dont think its cheeky either.

maxybrown · 10/01/2011 10:11

Lots of poeple do this I have found out over last few months! but then the seller has no proof of postage to you either so not something I would want to do - bit of a rigmoral then as he can't provide proof of postage to you, and then he has to pursue Amazon for refund blardy blardy! It all seesm like too much hassle to me so always intrigues me (a little lol) when people do this.

TBH though Diva, I think sellers who do this set themselves up for crap tbh, just creating hassle! (potentially)
