Stupid BIN question

Instead of paying fees to list an item price for BIN, can I just add text to that effect and avoid the fee? Like

"I will change this auction to BIN and sell this item for XXX if anyone wants a BIN price."

Is that allowed under Ebay rules, I'd still be paying the BIN fee eventually if someone wants BIN, just not inevitably even if no one wants BIN.

I have never seen this done, would imagine it is not allowed as it is a pretty obvious thing to try. But some people will ask if they want to BIN so you could say, any questions about payment or delivery, please contact me and I will try to accommodate you.

I expect it's not allowed, either. Then again, as long as Ebay gets their fees, why should they mind? I must don't want to have to pay the BIN fee if there's no interest in BIN, iyswim.

I'm not sure if it's allowed or not but I do find it really annoying when I put a BIN on then someone bids straightaway, removing the BIN.

Dont put anything on the listing, if someone contacts you agree a price get them to bid, and end the listing selling to the highest bidder add the difference to the postage costs.

What's the difference, Classydiva? If a would-be buyer can contact me and ask me to change to BIN, why can't I indicate I'd be willing to change to BIN without having to pay a BIN fee first?

I will go ask on Ebay fora sometime! :)

The way classydiva is suggesting means that you avoid any extra fees.

I was asked a couple of times recently to add a BIN to items which already had bids on them. I suggested they bid up to the amount they had in mind for a BIN then I'd end the auction at that price to the highest bidder. It didn't work out because other people bid aswell and both items ended up selling far higher than the suggested BIN - however, I would have been more than happy with the offered BIN price. In that situation, CD way would have worked for me but I'm not sure that ebay would entirely agree!

Right, Mogs, that's the sort of problem I'd expect from CD's suggestion.

I can't see why you couldn't say you'll consider BIN in the listing.

Also, what would happen if the listing was for an item which has a postage cap on it? Can you still add extra onto p&p costs?
