Ebay - Fridge doesn't work properly - Have I lost all my money?

I bid for and won a 2nd hand fridge. Described as working, good condition. I had to arrange my own collection and delivery, and paid the driver directly.

The fridge appears in reasonable condition but wont go any lower than 9*C. I think safe temperature for a fridge 0 to 5 degrees.

I have informed the seller, but no response as yet.

Will I have to just write this off as a bad experience? I don't know if the seller has any obligation to refund me the cost of the fridge, but I have had to pay for the delivery (and now disposal) of a fridge that doesn't work. Feeling Sad

Any advice would be much appreciated

did you pay by paypal by any chance? they guarantee some things

normally ebay are good about going to claims - go to their complaints procedure, it's quite self-explanatory...

goplayout · 08/12/2010 20:01

Yes I paid for the fridge via paypal.

However the collection and delivery was organised by myself (£40) and paid in cash to the driver. I presume this money is "gone"

Sorry, I am a computer numpty and can't find the complaints procedure. Is it the same as raising a customer support query? Thanks

You can file an item not as described, but you will have to return by trackable means at your own expense, you will only recover the initial cost of the fridge not your courier charges.

Always best to shop local to home when buying a fridge, but then again, you still wouldnt have been able to gauge the temperature.

Thank you classydiva, I'll contact the resolution centre now.

The fridge was the most local I could find (10miles)

I now have 4 (yes 4) broken fridges in my kitchen. My old american fridge freezer(leaks), 2 small fridges circa 1980 from my Dad's garage (One won't go above 0c, the other won't go below 10c), and my ebay disaster!

Feel a little foolish now...Blush

The council will usually remove them for free - sorry that doesn't help your ebay problem I know

LOL at goplayout and her fridge addiction !

I sold an american fridge freezer on ebay. It was broken and listed as such. A man drove 100 miles to collect it (he was an electrician) and paid me £20 in cash.

Bonus as it would have cost me £10 for the council to collect Grin

Think I need some hints and tips from you runforfun

You sold your broken american fridge freezer for £20 and I paid £10 for mine to be taken away!

The seller refunded the cost of the fridge, but have lost £40 delivery and probably another £10 to have it removed.

Never mind...

UNLESS..

I sell it on ebay as

"Plug in" cupboard available.

Makes a humming noise.

Internal light comes on when door opened.
