Can somebody give me a quick run down on eBay selling?

Hi. I have never sold on eBay. Bought a few things an age ago. Not sure I even remember my username and password!
I am at home with DD and have a house full of stuff that's too small for her, things I don't use etc. And thought I might flog them on eBay.

So, I would need to set up a pay pal account? And then you pay a listing fee (how much ballpark), some sort of % to eBay, is there some chat of paying for photos??

And is it worthwhile selling cheap stuff. Eg I have some lovely baby clothes which have barely been worn. But I doubt they would sell for much. So if a listing sold for say £5 would all your 'profit' just be eaten up in fees??

Thanks for any guidance.

Ok.

You need to set up a paypal account which can take a while as they need to verify your bank account.

If you start your auctions at 99p, you don't need to pay anything to list. The risk with that, of course, is that the thing sells for 99p. If you start something at £1.99, it costs about 10p.. it's not much really. Ebay currently run free listing weekends every so often which is a good opportunity to get your expensive items on.

If an item sells, you have to pay a final value fee charge which is about 10% of the selling price.

Paypal also take a cut of any payment made to your account.

If something sold for £5, you would probably get to keep just under £4 of it. That's not including your postage and packaging charges of course.

Photos are free for clothes and the first photo is always free for all other items as well.

Baby clothes tend to do quite well on ebay as people understandably don;t want to pay shop prices for something that will be worn a few times.

I would list any baby clothes that are BNWT (brand new with tags) separately, ditto for any special outfits or really nice designer things. Then auction the rest as a bundle. Remember that ebay cap the postage charge for bundles at £4 (bastards). If your bundle weighs more than 1kg but less than 2, it will cost you £4.41 (I think) to post by Standard Parcel. So you need to factor that into the starting price.

Go for it. It's addictive.

come over to the ebay boards - new to selling is good - there is lots of information about how to sell, what to sell and how to stay sane (ish) doing it

You can set up a PayPal account in minutes, it does not need to be verified until you reach your sending/receiving limits which is £1850.00

You can add up to 12 pics on clothing listings for free.
