buyer trying to return item - I suspect for no reason

Hiya - I sold a pair of immaculate but used boots on ebay.

The buyer took about 5 days to pay and when I checked her out I noticed that the last piece of feedback on her was for the sale of exactly the same pair of boots she had just bought from me, although she had sold them for less than she had bought mine from me.

She has now contacted me saying that they are too slim fitting and wants to return them for a refund. She also says that I did not mention this in my description. Someone did ask me about this and I posted my response giving the calf measurement and that they were pretty slim fitting onto my listing for all to see.

I suspect she just wants to return them because she made a loss but I think I am pretty much at her mercy because she can leave negative feedback and as a seller I can't.

Should I just cave in? Am pretty pissed off as they are in perfect condition and she said she already has two pairs so surely should know how they fit!!??

Did you say no returns? If so I would tell her to forget it. Thsi is a risk you take when buying boots and if she'd looked properly she could have seen the facts you gave or indeed asked you herself.

I did say no returns but am I right in thinking she can leave negative feedback for this and ruin my 100% rating?

I've just checked her feedback and she has 3 transactions in the last month for identical boots. She's obviously just buying them and selling them on, I think she just paid more than she wanted for mine.

Yes she can leave negative feedback but you can respond to that feedback and also lodge a complaint with eBay.

I wouldn't allow her to return them and would point her to the response on your listing stating the calf measurement.

She could open a dispute against you and if she does so via PayPal she more than likely will win.

Disputes count against your seller performance now.

Tell her you will accept them back but only for the item cost only, and she bears the cost of postage both ways.

You can lodge a complaint with eBay till cows start flying but it will not get the feedback removed.

Crap, really? That's pretty disappointing, I sold them in good faith and things seem to be heavily weighted against the seller in cases like this.

I have responded saying that I did state the measurements and that they were slim fitting in my listing as a response to a question but I know she's going to come back fighting.

It's so annoying when you know someone is blatantly trying it on. I knew when she didn't pay for a while that this would end badly, especially when I saw she had sold exactly the same pair for less a few days before!! Angry

You can get feedback removed - we did!

maxybrown · 09/11/2010 21:09

and besides, you are not a business, she is not claiming there is anything wrong with them, just don't fit (yeah right)

InVinoFerretsAss · 09/11/2010 22:42

Thanks maxy, that's good to hear. I'm still waiting for a response to my message.

Why do I get myself so wound up about stuff like this!!?

I know actually now i think oh leave a bloody negative then! i don;t know why we get all wound up about it . When I see people have negatives, I not only look at what the negative is about but how the seller respnds - that tells you more about the sller thn anything I think!
