I have just sold a dress on ebay - have sent it off and have just had an email to say it is faulty. I did not notice this and I am generally good at making sure all my goods sent are in excellent condition. I am hoping they are being honest.

I sold the dress BNWT and they have come back to say that the dress is faulty and that some of the material is loose - I offered a refund and they have just emailed further to say they the original tags have been taken off - from what they say the item just needs a little stitching - I can't believe that I did not notice this - but if they have taken the tags off what should I do? I want to be fair but am not sure if I am being taken for a mug.

Advice please?

They should not of taken the tags off.

Seems to me that they have worn it for the occasion they wanted and now want their money back.

Tell then that unfortuantely, as they have taken the tags off you cannot offer them a refund.

Or that, as the tags are now off you can offer a half refund?

Although I agree with sparklers that it sounds like it has been worn.

I normally would refund fully but something is just not right with this - if I offer half the refund as the tags have been removed, can I do this if they are saying the dress is faulty? I want to be fair in this but I think they have tried the dress on and it does not fit.

I think they will report me which is fine but causes such problems I could do without. I am a genuine ebayer and like to this everyone else is Hmm

Why would they take the tags off if they have not tried it on though. Agree offer half refund, if they can stitch it themselves.

Talkinpeace · 03/11/2010 16:11

If they want full refund they have to return the item first - then you can tell if it smells of washing powder Grin

classydiva · 03/11/2010 17:14

Unfortuantely it could be they have worn it the once and no longer want it. however you have to give the buyer the benefit of the doubt ask them to return whereby you will give them a full refund upon return, that includes the postage element, and if necessary return postage.

Do not let them go to dispute as it counts against you now.

Sparklers0nMyHead · 03/11/2010 18:03

Sellers do not have to pay for return postage! It is at their own discretion.

classydiva · 03/11/2010 18:17

A good seller would refund return postage if the item was faulty upon return. Bodes for good feedback too.

Sparklers0nMyHead · 03/11/2010 18:25

But doesn't taking the tags off say a lot??

So the seller is going to lose money on return postage and have a dress that she will have to repair and then lose money on it as she wont be able to sell it BNWT.

right. I'd know what I would chose between crap feedback and a loss.

Thanks for the advice but really don't know how to reply. How would you reply to them - they are saying that a lot of the dress had come apart - I always check items closely and they are saying a lot of the trim has come away. The dress sold for over £30 and i get the feeling I am being shafted, how would you reply bearing in mind the tags have been removed and this wasnt mentioned till the 3rd email I recieve. I have also contacted ebay and waiting their reply

Check out her buying history on goofbay, could she have bought the dress cheaper and is returning the cheaper dress to you. If you want me to check for you message me her ID and I look!
