How long do you wait for payment?

Hmmm,

Think I might be about to encounter my first problem with a buyer.

Sold a pair of shoes for £22.00 - auction ended 29/10 - have sent invoice - but haven't received money yet. Now I know it's not been that long, should I leave it until Friday (when it will have been a week)?

Got a funny feeling about this one TBH.

Always give a buyer 7 days to pay. Then you can either send a reminder invoice or open a NPB dispute.

Thought as much. Will do. Ta!

You dont have to give a buyer 7 days to pay you can open a non paying bidder dispute on day 4. Buyers get as long as it states on a listing to pay, so if a seller has payment within 24 hours by bidding you agree to make the payment in that time.

See the eBay help pages, this 7 days malarky really gets on my nerves. Buyers do NOT get 7 days to pay.

It used to be you could only open a dispute on day 8, now you can open on day 4, exactly four days after the auction finished.

eBay state a good buyer pays immediately, however they expect buyers to complete checkout within 3 days.

Sparklers0nMyHead · 03/11/2010 18:05

When did that change then?

classydiva · 03/11/2010 18:19

Its always been that way, always said in the help pages that buyers bid agreeing to the terms and conditions supplied by the seller on the listing.

It has never said that buyers get 7 days to pay never, it is only because sellers could not open a dispute until day 8 people always said buyers get 7 days to pay. That has never been the case.

The 4 day dispute thingme came in last year though.

If a buyer had 7 days to pay you wouldn't be able to open a dispute on day 4 would ya?

Sparklers0nMyHead · 03/11/2010 18:29

All right, keep 'ya' knickers on Grin

Well, I had a little look at this buyers' background and she only has 3 transactions - 2 of which were sales and the third was a non payment.

So, I've sent her a reminder email giving her until tuesday to pay and then I'll open a dispute.

Why do that though? Why bid on stuff and then never pay? To what end?

It's happened to me as well, I don't understand it. I send an invoice when the auction ends, if they haven't paid by the next morning. On day 5 (usually Friday for me) I send a mildly arsey email saying that if they haven't paid within 3 days I will file a non-paying bidder thingy and relist the item.

ShirleyGunpowderPlot · 04/11/2010 19:25

Do you get a little number next to your star regardless of whether the transaction completes or not?

Um no, once you've filed a non-paying bidder report I don't think the (non)-buyer can leave you feedback. But ebay refund the fees and you can relist the item.

maxybrown · 04/11/2010 21:15

I thought that at the 4 day complaint, the buyer just gets a reminder - still no action will taken until the 8th day?

maxybrown · 04/11/2010 21:18

oh yes link here I didn't know that! I usually pay straight away or at least contact seller.

classydiva · 04/11/2010 22:47

I think generally most do pay immediately or as soon as they get to a computer, I never understand why buyers make a seller wait seems rude.
