How was the item posted? Recorded or just normal? And how high value was the item?

stressheaderic · 01/11/2010 18:45

Same thing happened to me this week. Buyer asking for full refund, item cost about a fiver. I have postage receipt. What do I do?

Seems unfair that I can prove I sent it but they can't prove they received it, or not.

You refund in full, if the buyer opens a dispute against you it counts against your seller performance, too many disputes result in your account being suspended.

You refund and claim from RM.

So, am I just cynical, but could buyers claim that items are lost in the post all the time, even thought they actually did receive them? No way of disproving it, seems foolproof?

virgin · 01/11/2010 21:36

Unless items are sent recorded or special delivery then yes, buyers WILL allege they have not received the item. This scam has been going on for years and Royal Mail really are being taken to the cleaners over this with senders claiming against them.

classydiva · 01/11/2010 21:44

If you cannot prove delivery how can you possibly say the buyer is a scammer!

stressheaderic · 01/11/2010 21:44

It's a shame, because when items are genuinely lost, which I imagine is fairly rare, the tendency is not to believe the buyer.

virgin · 01/11/2010 21:55

If you cannot prove delivery and the buyer alleges they have not received the item then there is every chance that they are a scammer!

classydiva · 01/11/2010 22:05

I dont agree, I have had items not arrive, is it my fault as a buyer? Should I be without my money and my item? No.

virgin · 01/11/2010 22:16

Classy - no you are honest but there are loads of cases of buyers alleging that items have not been received when they actually have. In these cases the buyer gets a full refund and gets to keep the item as well.

classydiva · 01/11/2010 22:27

I know it happens, I have had a few buyers not receive items, and I always refund. doesn't happen often though.

stressheaderic · 01/11/2010 23:10

I have a buyer at the moment claiming she has not received her item (worth £5). I've just glanced through her feedback and there are 4 mentions of missing items/refunds in 18 months/a few hundred feedbacks. Does this sound about right?

classydiva · 01/11/2010 23:15

No it is too many. Tell her this

Dear Buyer

You appear to have a few items gone missing in the past, as there appears to be something amiss with your sorting office I will contact them direct to make a complaint, they will require all your details do you mind if I pass them on? As no doubt their loss prevention department may wish to talk to you.

Regards,

A long shot but all of a sudden the item might have turned up!

Saltire · 02/11/2010 08:08

I now post absolutely everything recorded - although it's not foolproof either.
One time I had a man claim that his parcel enver turned up. He got refunded by paypal (who always always come down inf avour of the buyer) and I contacted him and said "I have seen the proof of delivery signature for the aprcel, I assume it's turned up now" (which was a lie)
and he replied with "There was nothing ont eh aprcel indicating it ahd to be signed for"
Shock
Which proves he got the aprcel, toehrwise how would he know?

Yet he was allowed to keep refund and coat
