I'm selling a pushchair (quinny so really heavy!) on ebay and a potential buyer has asked if she could arrange her own courier to collect it. Just wondered if anyone has any experience of this and if it was a total hassle?

I imagine I would have to find something to package the pushchair (I don't have the original packaging so goodness knows where i would find a box big enough)? And then possibly wait in for a while for the courier?

Thanks for any info.

I've just sold a pushchair on eBay and the buyer arranged her own courier. It was fine, I did have the original box though, and just had to wait in one aft for the courier to arrive. Maybe you could just buy a big roll of bubble wrap?!?

I've sold a few prams on Ebay and arranged courier. You can probably get a box from places like Mothercare/B&Q/Curries.

Remove the wheels, wrap in black bags, I uually wrap the foam handles in bubble wrap. If you can't get a box the exact size you want you can always get a large piece of cardboard and use a lot of masking tape.

Thanks for the info......much appreciated. Presumably I can then charge the buyer for the packaging materials? How much did you charge if you don't mind me asking 5andahead?

If they are arranging their own courier, then I wouldn't charge anything, saes you the task of booking it. If however you were going to book the courier, then use a compnay like P4D who have several couriers. Usually to send via DHL it is £8.12, but to insure it for the right sum, it would be an additional £2+. If you wanted to charge and book courier, then say £15 P&P

Oops, pressed enter. Charge £15 P&P and refund any difference.

How small and how flexible are the windows for courier pickup? I imagine being asked to stay for hours and at times totally inconvenient to me.

5andahead · 17/10/2010 18:17

Usually it is 09:30 til 17:00 if you use P4D.

If you use www.senditnow.com you can choose a two hour time slot suitable for you, but costs a bit more. Would stil be within the £15 though I'd imagine.

Ah, I feel a little better now. Potential bidder asked if they could use their own courier but I was very unenthused about being stuck at home for hours and hours... wanna-be bidder never got back to me to clarify whether I would have to wait home all day or not. The item sold for much less than I hoped, so I wondered if I missed an opportunity there. But Royal Mail charged me about 12.50 to post it in the end, doesn't sound like courier with a specific and narrow time-window would have been significantly less.
