Buyer asking if I can change from auction to BIN

I'm slowly losing my ebay virginity Grin and just had my first question

A potential buyer wants to know if I can change item she wants for her son from an auction to a BIN

It's one of ds's old halloween fancy dress costumes and I wanted to get as many ££££ as poss really, money is for him not me iykwim.

What's the form on this - is it polite to respond and say 'sorry, you're welcome to bid but I want most money'. I've got a few watchers but doubt if I'll get an enormous amount more for it

Advice, anyone? many thanks!

Depends how much shes willing to pay and if you go with the auction you might not get as much as shes willing to pay swings and roundabout really

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 15/10/2010 13:48

On the other hand it might end up going for pittance. Is there any bids?

ragged · 15/10/2010 13:52

"is it polite to respond and say 'sorry, you're welcome to bid but I want most money'."

Yes, perfectly polite to say that. Otherwise, I suggest a BIN price that is 4 quid more than you think you'll possibly get in auction and promise you'll post it first class within 24 hours of receiving payment if it goes on BIN.

Do you have any bids yet? I think you can't add BIN after bids were received (?)

GrungeBlobofEctoplasm · 15/10/2010 13:59

Oooh thanks ladies. No - no bids yet. I put in on at £4 and I'd be happy if I got that ... but even happier if I got more.

I know ds would want as much as possible, especially as he's fired up from watching the Apprentice ...

look to see what others go for, add a couple of quid and offer it to her BIN - thats what I would do

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 15/10/2010 14:04

selling now would also probably lessen chanses of a non payer/relist item as they obviously really want it. See how much they are selling for :)

MimsyRogers · 15/10/2010 14:06

When people ask this I just say "Thank you for your interest, I think I will let the auction run its course". They are just trying to get away with getting it cheaper.

GrungeBlobofEctoplasm · 15/10/2010 14:11

Right I've just checked completed listings and they're gong for anything from 99p to £10!! Ummmmm ....

So if I want to do a BIN, do I email the prospective buyer and say Im suggesting a BIN for (let's say £7), would you be interested. And if she says 'yes', I then change to BIN - is that OK in terms of normal/legal ebay terms?

Oh Mimsy that was at the back of my mind too

I mean there's no shortage of this sort of costume on ebay at the mo ..

Actually I have now just looked at her profile and feedback and it looks as though she earns via selling on various costumes and stuff through ebay and I doubt very much she has the boy who soooooo wants this particular outfit as she claims.

Nowt wrong with that, but makes me think that she probably is trying it on with 'my son really really wants this costume' when looking to resale.

Right, I shall continue with auction and many thanks indeed to all you ladies. I shall raise a glass to you all when the winning bid rolls in Wink

I now feel older, wiser and a bit more deflowered Grin

Always helps to do that Grunge.
Someone asked my sis for £50 BIN on an ornament for his dear old mum, was quite persistent and upped his offer.
Turned out to be a dealer so she let it run. Ornament was rare one of a set. Auction ended @£300 ShockGrin

I often get asked to put a BIN on my auction. Sometimes the person asking suggests a price and sometimes they ask how much.

If the price is right then I'd quite happily sell that way - it means the item is out of my house a bit earlier than expected!!

aristocat · 17/10/2010 23:11

Grunge did the BIN asker win the auction?

GrungeBlobofEctoplasm · 18/10/2010 16:02

Just got back from the post office trip Grin

Mogs0 - it seems that she bought another near-identical item on a BIN in the end (actually more than I was thinking of asking for!) and despite the high number of watchers I didn't get a huge price for that item in the end.

However, bidding wars erupted over a couple of items I hadn't expected to shift so easily so all in all I had a very good evening (with my large glass of wine Wink). So it was all swings and roundabouts really!

Thats the fun of eBay Grunge getting an unexpected price for your item. Well Done [hsmile]
