Worried about message to seller - was this ok?

I bought a top for dd3. It's a boden top and it wasn't expensive - about £2.50 + postage. It arrived on Thursday and when I looked at it I could see it was in good condition but not clean - the sleeve was quite badly marked with something that looked like pasta sauce or baked bean juice. I thought it would wash out and that it looked like the seller had got it straight out of a drawer without noticing it had been put away dirty. I thought I'd better let her know though so I sent a message saying that it was marked butI would wash it and it was fine but wanted to let her know in case she was selling anything else. I haven't heard anything back at all. Do you reckon that's just because she hasn't been on line or have I committed some sort of e-bay crime?
I steam washed the top and it's come up like new btw.

I think you did the right thing - you could have left negative feedback after all. Similar happened to me - I received an apron with a massive stain on it and messaged the seller. I managed to get the stain out, but the seller left a narky comment on my feedback saying I was a difficult customer! Cheek!

I'd forget about it now.

She hasn't left feedback yet - but neither have I, thought I'd wait for her reply. It's not a big deal but the item wasn't as it should have been. Ok - will try and forget about it.

Northern praps she thought you were after a partial refund?
FWIW i thought your message was fine and would have done exactly the same Smile

Northernlurker · 09/10/2010 17:32

I hope not - I said at least twice that it wasn't a problem.

sellers can all make mistakes, maybe she is away or something then & unable to respond.

mogs0 · 10/10/2010 20:46

I think your message was fine. I would send another though saying that you'd managed to get the marks out.

If there's no response after that I'd give less stars on item description and comms.

Tryharder · 10/10/2010 22:46

Mistakes happen but you were very understanding about it - many buyers would not have been so nice.

She should have sent you a nice email, apologising profusely and offered you a partial refund, which of course you would have had the grace to refuse.

I would mark her down on stars for item as described and communication.

Can I just ask how you steam wash something?

HoneyIatethekidsdragon · 12/10/2010 12:45

I bought some clarecraft dragons for ds last easter, when they tuned up one was broken.

However they couldn't have been wrapped or packaged any better, but it was obvious that they had been bent by someone the post system.

I emailed the seller just to let her know for the future, but stressed I had glued it back together and would leave good feedback. She took a while to respond but was pleased I told her.

I think it is important to let people know, especially private sellers, as those minor things can lead to major issues if a different buyer wanted to try it on. I know I would want to be told.

WEll she finally replied apologising on MOnday. So I confirmed that it did wash out and left her good feedback. Didn't seem worth making a fuss about and it was a decent item for a good price.
The steam wash is something my machine will do - Whirlpool one - and it's really good for getting stains or just general dirt out.
