buyer wants a refund

I sold 4 pairs of jeans for the grand total of anout £3.50. They buyer emails me saying she doesnt want to leave neg feedback(well thanksHmm) but one of the pairs has a gaping hole in them and she doesn't know how I could habe "missed" this. I did not miss it there was no hole.

I made the mistake of under estimating postage cost and it cost a lot more to post the bundle than she paid, my mistake and I absorbed the cost, of course.

I know she is pulling a fast one, am I within my rights to ask she returns the full bundle for a refund? or is she only obligated to return the "damaged" pair?

Also she will have to send them recorded?
and will I only then have to refund her 1/4 of the total she paid?(assuming she sends only one pair back). Which would be silly as the postage would be more than the refund.

Why do buyers do this?Sad it has ruined ebay for me. I haven't sold in ages because this has happened before. Charity shop is much better from now on I think!

I would tell her to return for refund. You are within your rights to do that. She probably wont bother then as the postage will be more than the cost of the jeans.

Tell her that she has to send them all back, and then relist the others again with a realistic postal charge.

It is up to her if she sends them recorded or not, but she would be wise to as otherwise she will have no way of proving that you recieved them.

I don't think you have to pay return postage by ebay rules so bigstripeytiger is giving good advice IMO... I bet she won't send them back!

I just had someone bid on an item from France - even though I stated UK bidders only - and then reduce the postage on the invoice (when if I was going to post it there it would be more obviously). They have paid me the reduced amount and are obviously hoping I will post it anyway! I think ebay has got more tricky for sellers right now as buyers have the upper hand with the newish feedback situation - very disappointing. Hope your situation resolves.

What bigstripey said.

Fewer and fewer people who are not running shops are selling on Ebay because of gits like this.

I'd ask her for a photo of the hole and then after she's sent you that offer a partial refund on the damaged pair.

I am presuming she won't send you a picture as she can't if there is nothing wrong and then you won't here from her again.

If she does send you a picture of damage then I would just refund her 88p (which is a quater of the price she paid). It is annoying if she's pulling a fast one, but not worth the hassle. That way if she does leave you negative feedback at least you can reply with she had a refund for the damaged pair of jeans.

Can anybody help me ??- i have just sold a perfectly good pram on E-bay which is in great condition i stated on the description that it was used and there were scratches to the frame as it had been in storage, Now the buyer is saying the pram was filthy (i washed before i posted) and the seat unit was full of crumbs even though i have only ever used the carry cot on the pram which is a Mamas and Papas Herbie, I am really panicking now because my paypal account has been placed on hold and they would like a refund , i dont have the money to refund or the time to accept a return as i am in the middle of moving house, i would never sell anything that i would never ever be happy to receive myself - Please any input would be great Confused

I had a problem with a pushchair I sold and the whole experience was enough to put me off selling anything large or high value on ebay again.

However I did find ebay helpdesk helpful. Have you spoken to them?

I would ask the buyer for photos of the complaints. I would also state politely that you are surprised at the condition they are describing the pushchair in as you washed it fully prior to sending.

If they want a refund Ebay will need them to return the pushchair to you at their cost by a trackable means. If they are trying to pull a fast one then they will probably not bother.

Have the confidence to stand your ground. In my case Ebay told me they would not refund the buyer any money until they could prove they had returned the pushchair. They will not have frozen the whole of your paypal account, just the money for the pushchair.

Good Luck. If you need anymore help please ask.
