HELP - return situation on paypal

I just bought an electric piano £250, went to collect, it was all scratched adn the music stand had been snaped and glued. I was disappointed but just went for it as we had travelled quite far to collect and is for hte kids anyhow. got it home, one of the speakers doesn't work and on the car journey home the stand fell apart again! I am so gutted.

So my question is, what is the best way to deal with it? If I ask for a refund, does he need to have the money in his paypal to get it - i.e. if he has already transfered out, then am I up S&*t creek? would I be best to claim through eBay first by raising item not described, or should I go direct to paypal?

Thanks

contact the seller first. Ask if you can return it for a refund and tell him all the faults.
If he dopesn't agree open a dispute in paypal. You will need to return it trackable. If you win the dispute you will get a refund whether he has money in his account or not.
Not sure how the dispute will go tbh as paypal may think that you should have inspected it prior to collecting.
Ask the sller first though and see what happens. If he is unreasonable about it there is a sure fire way to get your money back (but I can't be the one to recommend it Wink)

So, the surefire way, if someone else recommended it would be what?? Even if you could give me a key word that I could type into eBay searches to find out. I'm quite experienced on eBay, but not on this side of things. I think I have only ever asked for a refund once due to the goods not arriving

just so i don't feel so bad - ask the seller first and see if he is reasonable.
if not - due to the fact it was collection and paypal may not see in your favour as it was collection.... and due to the fact it was a lot of money and worse than that your DCs will be dissapointed (my DS would be really upset) there is always the Item Not received dispute.

thanks. And that would be on paypal - yeah? What if he presents emails that I have sent though which would clearly show that I have the item.... I suppose if I felt really bad I could drop it off there so he does have the goods (if it was awarded in my favour that is). Thanks, that would def be last resort. And yes, my kids are also gutted, like me.
