Selling a gucci watch on ebay - should I have a reserve

I think it cost about £400 new, I am not a gucci watch kind of person so it has sat in its box unworn.

You can sell it on here if you have CAT. I'd buy it off you.

I wouldn't sell it without a reserve, you may find that it's a suspected 'fake' so only goes for a very little.

It is real, in the box with the stamping on the back of the leather.

I am also about to do some armani jackets, prada bags etc. It is all just not me anymore.

You should sell them on here.

TheBestAManCanGet · 24/07/2010 20:30

I don't really want to, I feel uncomfortable about trading for money on here.

You can use paypal.

I'd put a reserve on them if you go through ebay, check what they are currently being sold at. Work out what the minimum you would accept is and add on 10%.

TheBestAManCanGet · 24/07/2010 20:35

Ok have seen the same watch with a reserve of £35.

And another one with reserve of £95

See what they are being sold for and take the average.

I'd be pissed if I sold a gucci watch for £50.

TheBestAManCanGet · 24/07/2010 20:40

The way I see it the watch has been sat in my drawer for years, it is not new. But as I said hardly worn.

Do you have a daughter you could pass it onto?

TheBestAManCanGet · 24/07/2010 20:50

Yes I do, the thought did cross my mind actually as it was her father who bought it me. I have however put aside another watch for her that is nicer and some jewellery that he gave me, including the pearls I wore on our wedding day. ( we are now divorced.)

I am trying to raise money for a charity.

I do think the fee on here is alot lower then ebay, it's £5 for CAT, you can still go through paypal so you are not handling cash, it will cover you incase anything goes wrong.

I hope you raise alot of money.

Thanks.

TBAMCG, I would definitely put a reserve on a high-value item like that, but as I think it's free listings this weekend, another option would be to just put it on at a starting price close to what you'd accept? Because one of the problems with a reserve is that you have to pay a certain percentage of the reserve price upfront, which is non-refundable if the item doesn't sell (and if it doesn't you have to decide whether you then list with a reserve again, paying the fees again, etc).

A third option which can work quite well is to do a Buy It Now listing with 'or Best Offer' as an option - ie you list it with a Buy It Now price towards the upper end of what you think it's worth/will go for (check Completed Listings for an idea of what that value might be), then people can either bid that amount to get it right away, or make you a lower offer which you can then decide whether to accept or not.

Right I have just discovered that the battery has gone in the watch. How much is that going to cost to replace?

I may ask the jewellers in town how much they would give me for it.

Don't go to Earnest Jones, they charge £20 to replace a gucci battery and have to send it off (I'm serious, I used to work there). A new battery will cost about £4 off a market.

TheBestAManCanGet · 24/07/2010 22:00

I had £20 in my head, when I lived in London there was an Ernest Jones up the road so that must be why!

Lots of jewellers around here will buy watches from you if they are new and boxed. You might get more money that way?
